So, after my rant over the weekend, I got a logon yesterday for the new network. Don’t know if the 2 things are connected
I'm not a gamer or big time streamer so did not test those last night, except for BBC iPlayer downloads over VPN which ran like a dream. I will test streaming from BBC tonight. Youtube much more consistent, no buffering seen on 720/1080.
Line maxed on single-threaded HTTP downloads yay!
Testing on testmy.net overnight consistently showing 5.xMbps on my 6Mbps line (after consistently showing < 700Kbps over the weekend). I will run a half-hourly test during the day tomorrow. MTR tests showed a lot less packet loss on international sites.
Interestingly, performance (opening links, etc) on the iTunes Store inside the iTunes app on Mac OS X is vastly improved, as are app downloads. Presumably the new network has better links to Akamai ...
Generally things appear much snappier on web pages and I noticed that some things (e.g. Tweetbot) seem more responsive on the iPhone over wifi.
So, so far so good
I’m a much happier customer than I was over the weekend. Hopefully things remain good going forward.
