There's no cap. We simply only start shaping after 200GB on 10Mbps.

The new authorisations are going out tomorrow morning for the news server access.

BTW, live chat support is always best for quick responses.

Mmm, 200GB unshaped bliss for 10mb accounts sounds very tempting to me. I don't even use 200GB every single month.

Thanks, can you check if my exchange is giving me problems. If it is then I need to report a fault with Telkom. I changed my DNS from unotelly to crystalweb DNS and it seems like things are better but I want to rule out exchange issues.

Hickory, Dickory, Dock... as the clock hit 12am nntp download speed strikes sub 100KB\s. ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Spiking to 200KB\s and see-saw between 150 & 200KB\s.

Please let loose the juice?

No shaping on NNTP right now on our side. Here you can see tests over nntp protocol on our test ADSL line running a standard uncapped account - it's testing the protocol throughput only, so this test only serves to check whether it's the account/ISP. So either the Telkom network on your exchange takes a big hit at this time of night when the shaping is relaxed across all ISPs, or the NNTP server is taking a hit, but I doubt it's the latter.

If you want you can PM me and we can test to see why this happens? :)

BTW, the drops in speed you see there are the tests changing over to different ports, not connection issues.

Full line speed on NNTP for me here :)

And with that I bid you all a good night :)

Would need some test data from you. Happy to check it out for you. We are standardising on a very detailed technical support process. The past few weeks we've seen quite a few things slip through the cracks so we've put an end to it on our side by doing some standardisation. The proess can be found here - https://support.crystalweb.co.za/po...ort-a-problem-to-crystal-web-step-1-9-10-2014

You may see an SSL error there - it's just a temp portal to use until end of this month when the site fully releases with the full FAQ and self support systems in place. You may see insufficient privileges as well if you haven't registered for the support portal as well - if so, just click go home and register, then run through the suggested process there and send me the information on support @ crystalweb.co.za and we can have a proper detailed look for you.

Highlights from that process:

Always test with a wired connection to rule out possible wireless issues. You won't believe how many times packet loss on hops way down the line were actually as a result of packets dropping there because they initially got held up on the wireless link internally.
Run through the steps one by one and test each step along the way. This is troubleshooting, not shoot-from the hip, gung-ho. :D
Run all tests in sequence, but not at the same time - if you run them at the same time you'll see dodgy data results.

^^confirmation it's not the ISP nor the nntp server^^

So we can pin this on the exchange taking a knock somewhat at this time of night, which luckily is a temporary thing on their network, but does indicate that you're creeping closer to Telkom's infamous congestion points on that exchange.

Congrats!

@Crystal Web, thanks very much for sorting out the routing issue, account is back up and running again :)

Just signed up to have my account activated for the 19th onwards (today), How long does it usually take to create and send login details etc? (given that it's sunday :) ) ... Want to start using Crystalweb as my ISP :)

I am leaving Crystal Web after less than 2 weeks - my cancellation is in for end of month. Joining them was for me obviously a big mistake. In my experience the worst ISP I had in 20 years, going back to dial-up days, this includes 11 years with Telkom, 8 years with Axxess, 10 months with Afrihost and less than 2 weeks with Crystal Web. Chances are that there will also be litigation following. It also appears they follow the same MO as Cybersmart used to follow. I shall disclose full details later in all available forums

Oh well, there will always be one rotten customer (apple) in the bunch. You are one out of a hundred people with issues. Your opinion alone is null and void.

Do you have any fully unshaped/unthrottled 2Mbps accounts? No soft caps, no throttling if I dowloaded 150GB this month, etc.

Thanks.

/shrugs

your issues, joining CW was one of the best moves I think I've ever made

I'm happy with my account. It suits my usage profile and the quality is good. I like the way management interact in a mostly casual way. I have some issues with packet loss and will be happy when that is resolved.

However, it is for each user a personal experience and that experience will vary.

Not sure what the "Cybersmart MO" refers to, so can't comment on that.

Moving to CW has been great, so far the only downtime I had was when my line just died and when it came back I couldn't connect.
1 post on myBB (admittedly the wrong way to have approached it, I should have contacted support or PM'd CW) and I was back online within 10mins.

Coming from Telkom I know all about crappy support and CW is leap and bounds ahead of others!

Only problem is I cant find anything remotely bad with my CW account. No matter what I've thrown at CW it just works.
Dammit CW why you no have a downside :p

Cybersmart MO = Cybersmart modus operandi/ method of operation - with spesific referral to lines
