Official Meizu M2 Note thread

I tried Textra but the problem I had with it was that yes you can block numbers, but I could not find where to go to the "filter box" to see what was filtered and read the messages. See our system sends me a token when I need to log in, but it also sends loads of other messages that I dont need, so I need to filter these SMS's based on the number it comes from, but I also still need to be able to read the messages with my tokens in it. GO SMS Pro seems to fit me better.

I understand, don't have much to filter so never really checked that side of the App, Go SMS Pro is a great app as well.

@oneNkuli

Awesome stuff. Thanks for the Fleksy recommendation! Looks awesome going to try it out now! :D Also going to activate the gesture settings now.

Loving my Meizu M2 Note more than my G4. The G4 is not performing they way this phone is and it has 1GB more RAM.....

You wont be sorry :)

On the custom launcher, any issues with persistence? Like if you reboot, do you have to choose the launcher app as your preferred launcher again?

I'll be honest, i've never used the Flyme Launcher for more than 3minutes. First app I probably downloaded was Nova Launcher, and on other days I use Aviate.

My Meizu has successfully passed the "drop it on a tiled floor" test :p , was wondering how long it would take me.. Not long it seems, the thing is kinda slippery. Anyway.. bam, face down on the floor, nearly had a heart-attack, it survived perfectly though. :D

Also in reference to my earlier posts querying the GPS, I've tested it quite a bit now and it's perfect. I dunno about the guys who said a lock in a few seconds is impossible, but yesterday I drove a few hundred KM, I had the location services completely disabled so no chance of it remembering my last position or anything like that. I used an app called "GPS Test", fired it up turned on location services and it instantly found 21 satellites and achieved a "3D lock" within about 3 seconds. Nice and fast. :)

Now do it in Google Maps

Now do it in Google Maps
I did, several times. It feels just as fast. Most of the time it locates me faster than it can download the map. I actually thought the gps tester app was a better method to test because as far as I can tell it doesn't use the assisted gps feature, i.e., it can't get a fix when I'm indoors (or at least it really struggles to, except when I'm standing right by a window). Google maps on the other hand works all the time.

I dont know if it is just me, but it seems when I use Waze the gps locks faster. Google maps have pissed me off for the last time. Sticking with Waze now. But the GPS on the Meizu is really good. The GPS on my Huawei P6 sucked absolute dog sh*t. It was absolutely shocking. Would wait for 10 minutes sometimes waiting for it to lock on .... and then while driving it would lose the lock and leave me trying to bloody figure where I am and then the hookup I am meeting that night asking where I am....what is taking so long ... he is in bed ready to rumble blah blah. Terrible! :p

Have now switched to Nova Launcher, gave the default FlyMe launcher a good try, but it's really just too limiting, especially with no app drawer - I can quickly see myself having way too many icons on the desktop pages. Also love that with Nova I can increase the number of icons per page, my old phone had 4x4 icons per page and that was just a 3" screen, on the Meizu's 5.5" having only 4x4 is very sparse.. well, maybe it's ok for people with really fat fingers.. :p

Also rooted it so I could install AdAway, I really appreciate that Meizu actually acknowledges that it's *my* phone by intentionally providing the option for root access, always pissed me off that I have to "hack" my own phone to gain full access to it.

Have you guys noticed a WiFi issue with the new firmware? It seems that after being connected to my home wifi router for a while my phone loses the connection and then keeps on trying to connect again but keeps on failing. My laptop is connected and working fine. Only thing that seems to sort it out is to restart the router? Confusing. Any of you guys have this issue?

+1 My WiFi also disconnects randomly for some reason. I just ignore it and it reconnects without bothering me too much within 30 seconds usually.

Mine does not reconnect though. You can see with the icon it is trying to, but does not connect. Really strange. I thought maybe the router is at fault but laptop is fine?

Just watching the firmware download and my phone is varying between 20kbps and 400kbps. Never noticed before.

My firmware download also went up and down up and down in speed. Think the Chinese servers are a bit wonky or overloaded. Not sure. But it gets there in the end :)

Haven't had any problems connecting to wifi so far, I do leave it permanently connected when at home.

What I am finding most annoying to date is the lack of volume control options - far as I can tell there's pretty much just one for everything... Annoying as I generally keep the volume low for stuff like games, but if I lower it in game then it lowers the ring volume too..

So last night no wifi issue. Weird. I did see the Vuma guys fiddling on the fibre hub box or whatever you call it in the street on my way home yesterday. Maybe the connection was not stable and my phone did not like it or I dont now.....but last night it was fine.

That volume thing is a general Android issue these days and not isolated to Meizu.
