OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

Agree. Why let a fellow forumite fall into a pit whilst we watch?

Well that is you opinion. it is not factual at all.

I used Openweb capped account and it was really really good but people kept on praising Crystalweb. So I moved to them. Talk about a pit. No where near the performance I used to get on my Openweb capped account.

I'm now back to my Openweb capped account coupled with a Telkom softcap account is THE BEST solution for me by far.

If I would to tell people not to join Crystalweb because I experienced some bad shaping at times I would get a lashing of note.... So I agree that people can voice their opinion but some people in this thread have a personal vendetta or something and because of that or what happened to them everyone should now avoid at all costs..... It does not work like that...

not sure how you can support that isp.

I don't know too. I spent weeks and weeks trying to convince them to give me the service i was paying for and eventually gave up. They indeed used to be great i joined them back in the days and had an original Gold Uncapped which evetually turned into a Golden pile of **** and this is exactlt what everyone went through. So i say the dishonesty and tricks makes them not deserve anyone's business, because who knows how long it is before they start crapping the capped accounts as well.

Ok do you mind pointing me to a ISP that you think is better?
I use an Afrihost CAPPED package (a business one) to get the same level of performance I USED TO HAVE, before MWEB started with their kark

F*** you f**ing bunch of useless scum!!!
Years with this ridiculous overcharged R600PM account and the moment I cancel my account becomes useless.
F*** losers. I hope this company drown in its own s**t

Exactly what the done to me. I was downloading at 5kbps after cancellation.

Seems like standard practise for them. What I don't understand is they alienate their ex customers so much that most will never consider going back to them or giving even a semi decent word when people ask about ISPs. It's like self suicide.

My Openweb account has been erratic (grinding to a complete halt at times) over the last four days. The smtp server also works partially for me, but also stops working. I phoned support. One the website it says "Get in touch with our great support Staff!". In reality, I can't get through to a technical person and they have no facility to put you on hold.

Now I'm trying to get to the bottom of the difference between shaping and throttling.

In my mind, shaping is the prioritisation of protocols. Since Openweb says they offer shaped accounts, I can understand that. I am happy, as long as my browsing, emails etc get through.

Throttling, in my mind, is to cut back on bandwidth across the board, and that's what seems to be happening.

I'm still getting clarity.

Shaping is priority by de-prioritizing certain protocols. So throttling on certain protocols.
Throttling is reducing the speed across the board.

And then you get contention, which is most likely what is happening at OpenWeb, reading through the feedback. Basically throttling.

That could definitely be the case

and I can't establish a secure dropbox or https:// connection. Would that be shaping, throttling, contention or some other routing problem?

If you can't establish a connection at all, then it is being blocked.
Could also be that your connection is too slow for it to load, to check it, use cmd and ping the address.

Well there you go. If you were so happy with them then why aren't you...?

Are you sure that is intentional? Don't ascribe to malice what can be explained by (possible) ineptitude.

Being a client for four years, you would think I would know how myself along with others have been shafted. :sarcasm:

You think I would complain if I had a working account? :)

Basically I was saying that having a 5kbps may not be due to cancellation, but network problems. I am still a paying customer and have had my browsing, email etc dropping to 0.000 kpbs at times
