OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

Latest is the suggestion that my problems are not with Openweb at all - they are due to my router, or 'something else'.

Nice try:whistle:

Hi all, quick question for you - I signed up with Openweb to test thier 2MB uncapped account (it was on special at R139 pm which seemed fair). After the first day I saw that it was essentially unusable, it wouldn't load websites and we couldn't even watch one or two youtube videos at 240p.

I mailed them asking for my money back as the service was unusable and they refused saying according to thier cancellation policy I can only cancel at the end of July.

While I don't mind the R139 too much thier attitude to the problem really got to me - is there anything I can do about this to cancel / get my money back or should I just sit the 1.5 months out?

Thanks
TL

You are kinda stuck till end of July. Cancel now and make sure you get the conformation email with a reference number then you wait it out or take the loss and signup somewhere else.

Typical example of why you should never sign up or support this ISP.

Well, you have a case for immediate cancellation and in fact for full money-back if you can show that you didn't get what you legitimately paid for. The problem is it will take a lot of time to prove and you would need to do a lot of admin to formalise your complaint.

It will certainly help other users if you can pull that off successfully.

I know I'm in the same boat - using Openweb is a daily battle for me now - with long periods of not being able to connect, and youtube videos failing to start

Right now I can't access https:// sites

I have mailed support but not received an ack yet.

The same thing happened yesterday around 11am

what sort of speeds do people get on their "uncapped late"? I've got a 10mbps line and it's going at about 8mbps, which is pretty much as fast as anything goes on any account. However, I'm looking into getting 40mbps VDSL, will it run closer to 40mbps?

I heard that they shape the uncapped late portion of their capped accounts. Also, Look elsewhere at any other ISP - This ISP is not to be trusted.

I don't really understand the confusion. Their capped accounts come with uncapped after hours. I'm simply asking how fast this uncapped can go, in people's experience. Shaping is another story, of course. And I don't trust them at all, hence the question.

The accounts are hard speed capped @ 40Mbps.

This means that you can run many lines on the account and should receive full speed up to a maximum of 40Mbps between all the combined lines and sessions.

So although I do not have a 40Mbps line I'm sure the uncapped between 00:00 and 6am would run at full speed or maximum of 40Mbps.

Pm if you want a test account that you can test for yourself.

I'll sign up for a smallish capped account and run tests on my 100mbps fibre line and post the results here.

You're sure it will run at 40Mbps..? How can you be sure it will...? When others tested it that wasn't the case. They of course now claim that this has been fixed/amended.
Since when are you handing out test accounts for OW...?

I was one of the users who tested out the speeds on the capped accounts not so long ago - rate limited to 10mbps on everything on my 40mbps line.

I highly doubt anything has changed.
