MrBeep, please help. My internet is running at a snails pace. I can just about load the Google home page, but can't search. Speedtest also doesn't load, so I can't test that.

I've already pm'ed my account..

Could you PM support? They usually reply within an hour

Mine is constipated today. Can't do anything, not even browsing works. Logged into an old Openweb account which I suspect now belongs to someone else, and it works perfectly.
The call center sucks too, been waiting for over an hour now for a call back. I give up.

We do assist on Facebook currently :) I however do not assist here, as I must maintain some sort of life outside the boarders of ADSL :)

I'm not sure which margin's you are comparing (Support, SLA, AUP, etc)?

I'd like to see MrBeep accessible via Twitter & Facebook tho.

According to OW speedtest isn't a reliable way of testing whether your browsing speed sucks.
Ummm.. if speedtest takes ages to even load, browsing sucks :/

So I did a simple test, loading an actual webpage with some content and images in Firefox, first with WebAfrica, then OW.
Restarted my router and Firefox the same way both times.
The webpage I opened: cradlekennels.co.za/find-a-puppy/

Results:

With WEBAFRICA, page loaded fully in 21sec
With OPENWEB, page loaded fully in 174sec (thats 2min, 54sec)

These times correspond closely to the speedtests that I also ran on both accounts:

Really terrible ADSL service and customer service

I switched to openweb last year after realising that axxess have been shaping my account without informing me for an unknown length of time.

My ADSL service is repeatedly interrupted. It happens frequently. Today I found myself unable to access websites, including openweb. Dns was not resolving up addresses, everything timing out.
I have called openweb 6 times today. I left 3 messages from the technicians to call me and one for the call centre manager. Nobody seems to able or willing to help.

I strongly suggest using another isp

Downloading from the Microsoft website, averaging 40KB/s. 316mb file will take over two hours to complete. I have a 4mb Gold Leon Edition account. R589 every month for this :/

Oh crud... websites timing out now... and email stalling.

so last year we had a little debate about pro-rata. beepie insisting they don't do pro-rata even though their support people talked about it. confusing all the different messages. when you upgrade your package you pay the difference between the two packages. no pro-rata charge. irrespective of when in the month you upgrade. now I couldn't care less but I had a chuckle when I came across this on facebook which indicates there is pro-rata.

Looks like either a fault at your router or exchange congestion.

Yup.... internet dead again, all websites timing out on a 4 MB account, third day in a row but hunky dory after 17:00. MrBEEP, I have no problem with shaping of downloads until 17:00 as I get the system and the idea behind it and I am happy with that. What I am not happy with, is not being able to open my e-mails or even a website (including this forum) every afternoon after work between 16:00 and 17:00. The shaping should not apply to browsing....

Ye, looks like an IS issue then (route between Telkom and IS), but definitely a regional issue.

Then what backbone would be an alternative to this IS one?
Any suggestions / recommendations...?

Any advice would be greatly welcomed!

Perhaps it is time to go the DJ route and get OW capped unshaped 200GB thing....

EDIT: Ooh err... maybe a 100GB DJ thing or change to an after hours unshaped and a smaller capped office hours thing.

/decision decisions

I know Openweb have MTN Business accounts too, maybe find out if your account is able to change to that backbone.

openweb support seem to miss the issue completely.

they care about how much you download in a certain period, but disreguard the fact that you can't browse the internet using a simple browser, opening normal websites, gmail, youtube etc.

and speedtests dont really count? its quite funny that its seen worldwide as the norm just not by openweb.
