Ah, 180KB/s only during office hours on an http download. Getting the latest ClearOS iso. I hope this is not a reflection of IS daytime speeds.
Consider yourself lucky you're on a 4meg. It seems the IS shaping on faster lines is a lot more lenient than that on slower lines. On my 384 you pretty much couldn't download anything.
Sorry to hear dudeFriend of mine on 1Meg OW IS is also unhappy with the daytime shaping.
Well if it keeps like this I will move to another provider. Have already been given the go-ahead by the powers that be. Giving it a few days. I've never liked IS.
Eh, I dunno. Seems like you guys on faster accounts have it a lot better than the rest of us.
Not exceeding 150KB/s now.
This is utterly pathetic now. I've been with MWEB at home for about 4 months now and I never have this kind of crap during the day, sure it's not unshaped but it's not anywhere near this level, and it's R200pm less.
I'd like to get this download to finish my work SOME DAY TODAY.![]()
Are you downloading via torrent or usenet that you are getting that speed? Just bare in mind, downloading protcols are shaped during the day.
Alright. I must admit that not every download I do (standard http on Port 80) is at full speed. For example, this morning I downloaded yet another update for my Kindle Library Manager and that was at full speed, 410Kbps plus. Shortly after that I had to download a sound card driver, pulled that at about 40-50kbps.
I also suspect that your download speed is only as fast as the weakest link. So if the site you are downloading from is only allowing downloads at max 50kbps and you have a 10MB line, 50kbps is the speed you will be getting regardless.

Or if the place you're downloading from allows multi-threaded downloads.
You guys all seem to be having the same problems we are having on our Afrihost uncapped accounts - NOTE this will only be the Cape Town people and those who route through Cape Town - like PE etc. Our downloads during the day are pathetic all because of IS and their IPC issues in Cape Town. We have been experiencing issues for the last week but it has been assured that they are working on the issues - Telkom currently the hold-up - apparently
