I'm glad for you. Webafrica works great if OpenServe works great.

I'm also working with Stephanie but she (or actually WebAfrica as a whole) doesn't seem very pushy when OpenServe does not work great.

They forward emails to Open Serve, say "please", and then get lousy one-liner responses which they just post back to the customer.

I'm basically doing a lot of work for them at this point:
1) Phoning multiple OpenServe installers (@koosie please remember to send me your installer's number)
2) Phoning a contact I got at Open Serve installer division
3) Phoning wholesale customer service managers (i.e. the guys WebAfrica is supposed to work with) at Open Serve wholesale. I'm not sure if this is going to bear fruit - so far not much - but I haven't been very pushy. These are the guys ISPAfrika seems to push much much harder.
4) Phoning Telkom customer care (not much use, since they basically tell you your ISP is supposed to solve your fibre issues).
5) I now have the number of somebody installing the black boxes on the poles -- that's my next guy to phone.

Come hell or high water, I'm going to have that green light before the 15th...

Oh irony you cruel unshaven bastard... it rains and this happens. Sent from my ADSL. In the rain....

Wow that's some serious bad luck.

Let us know if it comes back on.

Oke... who do i call now to sort thisnout though? Webafrica?

That is a huge bummer. You need to phone webafrica, who in turn phones Telkom. Who will then get a tech out for you. By the looks of things the wind could've kinked the fibre outside. Hopefully it's telkom's side with their configs, which will be an easy fix. If it's a kink, they have to pull in a fresh cable and redo the install again.

I guess. Although you might as well try the normal Telkom support first - my guess is they might redirect you to WebAfrica.

I think its probably a kink. If you see where the cable comes out from the box you will have a good laugh

Telkom refuses to deal with fibre clients directly. They want the ISP's fibre team to do the talking.

That's going to weed the pushy ISPs (who can get Open Serve to heed their bidding) from the meek ones.

How can I test my fibre without a wireless router as its only coming tomorrow? I have a free 1Gb account with afrihost

Got a call from Telkom/Openserve yesterday afternoon and they coming to install my Fibre on Tuesday (wanted to do today but I am not available).

ISP is WebAfrica

You can connect an ethernet cable between the open LAN port on the ONT, and a LAN port on your PC, and then define a PPPoE connection on your laptop using the login details given to you by your ISP.

Hi voldoverse,

Is your connection still down?

I spoke to somebody at Openserve earlier, they know about an outtage that affects multiple customers and are apparently giving it high priority.

Forgot to let you know. On friday. Was still flashing red. Im in senekal this weekend so font know how it is now but will probably call WA on monday if its still red
