Not bad mine is 1.9km away, outside of official coverage max around 150mbps, need to get higher pole. Way too many trees

Yup, I can attest to that. If you have the ODU then it is best to put it outside, mount it on the highest point on your roof (clear of house lines and trees), and also a special mention goes to playing around with the antenna settings.

rain 5G is a product that requires a bit of know-how, its not simply plug and play. Once you get your settings right though, @rain_mobile truly delivers.

True I have said this on many occasions that rain isn’t a plug and play … so I do get that … and understand how rain works … so if anyone has a question I’ll try my best to answer but for now I’m on the lookout for an pole thanks for our guy in this thread … I’ll see if I can get me one … next month …

I think a few members like @SauRoNZA and @cavedog have mentioned somewhere that it doesn't go down.

Rain will be switching off 4G network capability on its 5G packages in the coming weeks.

Rain CEO Willem Roos confirmed to MyBroadband that they will be disabling the 5G router’s functionality to connect to 4G “over the next couple of months”.

Roos said this formed part of the transitioning of its 5G network from NSA to SA architecture.
“There are significant benefits to SA, from better stability, increased upload speeds, and lower latency,” Roos explained.

“This should ensure a better experience for clients, as we have seen instances where the router would connect to 4G and ‘camp’ there.”

Roos added that Rain was investing in its base station infrastructure to ensure that the majority of its 5G network towers remain up during periods of load-shedding.

It will also be able to remotely change the router configuration to connect to 4G should this be required, Roos added.

“These changes will be done transparently to customers,” Roos said.

The tower itself goes down same time. If you are covered by more than one tower it will connect to a tower that is further away. If there is no other towers it will go down unfortunately.
 
Found a better spot last night, so far it lookin good.

I also changed antenna to fixed from auto, hopefully it does not switch towers anymore.

Been around 12 hours and I am still connected to the right tower.

R699 for 3 months, then back to R999?

What is the FUP on this - 1TB?
 
Looks like I probably have to cancel, seems the tower has no backup power :(

Not sure if it is suppose to switch to 4g when the power goes off on the tower? I had no internet when the power went off.

What I do during Loadshedding, especially when it affects towers in neighbouring hoods, I switch the network type to NSA, then it reverts to 4G.

Most rain 4G sites do have backup, so like now at Stage 4, I am connecting NSA. As soon as I turn the house back on mains, off generator, I switch it back to 5G SA.

doesnt sound promising but could probably have a work around

So this hasn't come into effect yet?

Very happy with CellC Home Connecta Flexi Prepaid - average download is probably 40, and upload 20.

Rain 5G will be my next stop if CellC ends this product. No way going back to Vumatel Fibre if I can help it.
