*READ FIRST* MTN Network Status & Issues (DNS, Throughput and Latency)

I am glad not the only one getting the 619 error :) signal always drops constently to edge i can dream on about getting a consistent hsdpa signal at nights anymore. My favorite is phoning the corporate help desk and they dont answer there phone the connection just gets droped when they pick up. Anyway i got rid of mtn now.

I'll probably have to do the same. I didn't want to change because of the hassle, but my Girlfriend has been ****ting on me now even more than usual because of mtn.

Can't they just fix the effing problem?

I have been using MTN Broadband for almost 3 years. I have never been satisifed with the connection. At first i was told it was the area, then it was the amount of users, etc etc etc. Then I moved house - same bad connection. I thought it could have been the modem - renewed my contract for another 2 years. Same bad connection.

If someone from MTN could help me i would greatly appreciate it.

I'm so gatvol with MTN & their bad broadband connection.

What does 1 do with the 2 MTN modems i now have? Can they be used with vodacom sims?

I've now totally given up with the help desk - they don't answer calls, they don't respond to emails, when you do get hold of them they promise to call back and never do.

Pretty pathetic for a company that has made millions off our backs.

I have been complaining about the loss of network speed, the constant disconnections for months now, And what have they done so far....ZERO
They never phone back. If the put you on hold the drop they line. They never respond to e-mail, be it from any mail or even the one you seen from there website.

I have had a contract with them for 2 year, and even longer on there pre-paid. Many of my clients have move to them for there Internet/Data service on my word. If they don't sort the crap out and get there house in order me and all of my user group will be ending our contracts, and tell every person we meet about our experience.

It is an interesting dilemma,

I can tell you I've been experimenting with both MTN and Vodacom (Sorry threeG :p) since middle last year. I've tested in a few Nokias, HTC, Ericsons and USB modems and all have same results. O tested in Upington to Kruger National Park, Pietersburg to Cape Town.

In my opinion the problem is a lot bigger than just few software setting on a phone/modem or hardware type phone/modem.

Some locations works better than others though, but contrary we have a MTN mast within 2 km of our house no problems with it (Part of testing was a constant complaint line to MTN and Vodacom, and they tested tower two weeks ago) and this morning I had no signal.

Since mid last year up to now it gradually worsened, I don't know how this one is going to be fixed but I can give you a list of friends and family who wants to scream!!!

Hi

I'm using an MTN prepaid SIM for data access from a fixed wireless terminal (FWT). I've tried connecting via both the "internet" and "myMTN" APNs but am struggling to send mails via Mweb's SMTP server from MS Outlook. I receive an error message stating that the server couldn't be reached.

When switching to my ADSL connection the mails go through, so the SMTP server seems to be intact. Is SMTP allowed for prepaid on these APNs?

Also, what are my best options cost-wise for prepaid data, allowing SMTP and VNC protocols?

Thanks

Mweb's SMTP server won't allow relaying from foreign networks, you will need to change your SMTP server in your mail client to mail.mtn.co.za.

My business located in Glen Marais Kempton park is using a mtn data bundle for internet connectivity and the last couple of weeks it has been atrocious, slow throughput, disconnects and timeouts while browsing. I made the obligatory call to the service center and got the obligatory "eh, there is noting wrong from our side".

My question is simply, WTF IS GOING ON??!!!

HELP!!!

omg mtn ftl

As of the past week I have had the worst mtn experience EVER... Continueous disconnects as my hspda modem switches form 3.5g to 3g and back again every 5-10 minutes or so (and there is 4/5 bars of signal strength) This makes my daily world of warcraft habit immposible as i dc ever 5-10 minutes... What is going on, it was perfectly stable last week.. And im not the only 1, a few mates of mine are having the same trouble... Am i wasting R389 on this 2GB data bundle which i cant even use now??
plz advise..!

I had issues with throughput last night. Terribly slow.... oh and I love how you try to connect and it fails for some time. Only to check 20mb or more has been used from the bundle. Is there a connection attempt fee I am not aware of? this is beyond ridiculous. :/

I've also seen MBs disappearing from my bundle when trying to connect, see here.

Yep, been having the exact same problem for the past week now, only on Warhammer Online (kinda kicked the WoW addiction, and took up a new one :D) - what the hell causes it, as it's never happened before? Any fixes for this?

I tried MTNvpn apn. Does pretty much next to nothing performance wise. As for gaming online with MTN, well thats another joke...

MTN FTL

Its been 2 weeks and still nothing, just as bad if not worse, i dont think mtn cares to do anything about this issue.. guess its time for vodacom again.. :S

Or maybe Durban ftl aswell as mtn...

anybody had any luck with there mtn and hsdpa-3g mode switching in other parts of the country?

Well again for about 2 hours last night I couldn't get a connection. You'd think a problem like this would be solved by now.

Man I feel like breaking into MTN network system, provided that I got the knowledge of l33z hacking!!!

Wheni I connect to the net (3G mode), I get very low data transfer speed like 2.2 kbps. IT TAKES WAY TOO LONG TO BROWSE THRU THE NET. WTF IS GOING ON?????????? I know of the fact that MTN sucks but why am I wasting money on this ****? well, i need internet for studies damnit
