Router Battery Backup

Gizzu arrived ... and the included (pathetically short) DC-DC plugs works on both my Calix Gigapoint ONT and all my related Tenda network goodies! After an 8 hour charge (the instructions booklet advises a proper charge before its first use), it has now been powering my one Tenda repeater overnight and the SOC% is currently standing at only 50% after about a 10 hour runtime. Cannot complain about that.

Edit: Down to 25% after more than 13 hours of runtime. I am load-shedding ready now. :cool:

It also supports 100w whereas the 860p supports 60w... Looks pretty decent
Yeah it looks alright. Guessing that 100w figure comes from the new 19V @ 5A output - definitely a welcome addition. Now if only 1Gbps PoE and solar input were included as stock... :ROFL:

Imo the Gizzu (SKE rebrand) is definitely a more well built device than the Ratel (SVC Power rebrand), just from a purely aesthetics/build quality perspective. But yeah that damn splitter cable length.. what were they thinking?! Gotta save on costs somewhere I guess :ROFL:

Dunno about the Ratel, but I've had a Gizzo for about 8 months now and it functions great for my setup:
Ubiquity edgerouter x and AP lite fed via POE.
Huawei ONT fed via 12 volt.
Battery lasts about 4 hours and it charged very quickly once power is restored.

The popular Ratel 860P Micro DC-to-DC UPS has been succeeded by the Ratel 8100 offering higher load bearing up from 60W to 100W. The most significant change is the addition of the 19VDC output which is ideal for powering laptops. Solar and PoE are no longer standard but are available as options.

Can anybody tell me why @Papa Smurf is ridiculing my idea of repurposing my garage motor battery to supply power to my ONT and router during power outages? The router is a little lower down. Both devices operate at 12v. The battery in the pic has a capacity of 7.2ah and I'm eyeing to replace it with a slightly larger capacity one. For the record, the garage door is not being used.

It'll probably work, but not ideal. For one, you'll have pretty long DC cable runs.

You have to remember that the battery starts off at >13 volts since it's fully charged all the time. The losses in the cable would still result in a potential of >12v reaching the the devices.

So it appears that there's another difference that is not noted on that spec sheet, the batteries are now LiFePO4 and not regular Li-Ion, hence 3.2V and 1800mAh. Assume it will have a shorter runtime than the Li-Ion 860P? Any electrical gurus in here have any thoughts?

Also, not sure why theres such a hefty markup (besides supply demand pricing..) since on the manufacturers site it's about the same per unit as the original 860P :unsure:

lifepo4 is less energy dense but more stable (spontaneous combustion) and longer lasting (more cycles).
