Yip, it will cost R 5901 with SA vat included. Not a bad price. If you place a order now they will ship it on the 16 May.
 
is it still on pre order at handtec? Don't have stock... Also huge price difference between the 16 and 32 gb versions...any other notable differences between the 2?

Only about 16Gb of space difference.
 
I was a hardcore HTC fan, but I must say the weight difference between the Galaxy S and HTC Desire is significant. Sure it's plastic, but nice and light.
 
Yep, that's why I wanna get it... Mainly cos of the weight

mind you, the local price of R6699 isnt as bad as I was expecting... I mean eXpansys got it for like R7629, And import is R5900 with duties... so fork out the extra R800 for peace of mind with warranties, etc?

Just the wait will be a killer :(
 
I can wait... ANOTHER 18 MONTHS :(
There will no doubt be something better by then.

The original Galaxy S was being sold for R5300 by Incredible connection right after in launched here, which was cheaper than the R5500 I paid to import it about a month before.
Expansys and other local importers were selling it at some crazy price like R10 000, they're just there to rip people off.

I'm actually considering the Optimus 2x since its cheaper.. Thank goodness I only need the phone in July....

It's gonna be a massive upgrade for you, whatever phone you end up going for! :)
