Imported a few phones the last few years and touch wood all worked without any problem, but I think you are going to jump through a few hoops if you import a faulty item.

Yup I did and still do. It was a great little phone for its time however android is just an amazing upgrade.
 
is there any chance ICASA will detain the phone? Is there a need to have it certified?

Ok so I have now spent a full day with the phone. First impressions are that it is one awesome piece of kit. It's very fast. Applications open as soon as you hit the button. The screen is amazing - bright, colourful and every other superlative you can throw at it. I played back a video that i captured on my original Samsung Galaxy S on the SGS2 and the differences in the two were quite noticable - I played back both on the minimum brightness setting, but the SGS2 playback was brighter and more colourful (yet not oversaturated) than on the orginal device.

GPS lock in within about 5 seconds. I havent tried much navigation with it (must still download an app for that) but the GPS did a good job of tracking me on Google Maps...and kept me on the road ... the postion was also correct.

I didnt go with Handtec - I went with Expansys. Yes they are more expensive - but I have dealt with them before and the phone was delivered within about 8 days.

Is upgrading from Galaxy S to Galaxy S 2 worthwhile? What are the main differences?
 
I'm really keen on finding out which navigation apps will work in SA that I don't have to pay and arm and a leg for?
