Anyone. Please. Release date. PLEASE!!

Most of the Vodashop and 4U stores I've called reckon it'll be here end of July beginning of August (only one said Septembr), and I must've called around ten stores from various areas in Johannesburg. All of them said their information was based on information exchanged between employees and not necessarily found in an official document from head office.

One store said it was possible that it would be launching on July 20th, but I somehow doubt Vodacom would go to the effort of launching it on a Sunday without letting the public know in advance...

Where from? How much?

Who was on this thread a while back saying they are going to sell these phones for cheap. I WANT ONE!

Got it from the same source I got the original Iphones from.

Paid R5000 for it but he did it as a favor for me...

I can bring it in for R6000.

Anyone interested?

((((Correction on pricing on the next page))))

Can honestly say that it's basically the same :p

It is ALOT quicker with web browsing and downloading...

Also like the yellowish tint on the screen... makes the display on the phone so much better.

The phone also feels more solid in my hand due to the trimmed corners.

and the speaker on the phone is WAAAAY better. Loud and NO distortion

Vodacom's stories

Thank you for your e-mail communication to Vodacom.

Kindly be advised that the Apple iPhone will only be released to Vodacom South Africa on the 20/07/2008. The Apple iPhone has not been launched on the Vodacom network as yet. At present there is no estimated time of arrival for the handset. Before the handset is launched it will still need to undergo stringent testing, which can delay the launch.

Should you have any further queries, please contact us via e-mail at customercare@vodacom.co.za.

Kind Regards

Candice Petersen

release date...

iPhone release date:

There is no release date for the iPhone
I repeat
There is no release date for the iPhone.

Apple will decide when it will reveal such information and until that point, any speculation, even my Vodacom employees is pure conjecture.
The way iPhones are selling in the 22 countries it was released in, might mean that the other countries will only be phased in once stock reaches acceptable levels in the first 22 countries, which might be quite a while.

So just to repeat, making any claim of a release date, by anyone, would be a complete guess. Until his 'Stevieness' decides when its being released to the other countries on the list, Vodacom will have no clue when it will arrive. They might have speculative dates, but Apple could change them at any time.

So, to not disappoint yourself, just think of the iPhone 3G coming out next year, at least that way you can still be surprised if it comes out earlier.

why do you sell the phone for R6000 if its advertised that the new one is $199??? even with shipping fees - R6000 is a hellova markup?

would be interesting to see a reply!

@Niccia
USD199 is the price you pay on top of a new contract. This is not the cash price.
As a matter of interest, the iPhone 3G is USD174 worth of hardware components (i.e. excluding operating system and other bundled software)

Im not gonna explain myself to someone who clearly can't take 5 minutes to read this thread...

If you skip the "when is it being released" posts it'll take 1 minute.

Rendier, thank you for your quick and snappy come back. I DID read the threads - and all i see is alot of speculation.

And please dont explain, rather use your valuable time to go make some coffee and RELAX!
