The Tata Bolt Thread (Tata Lovers)

Just got back to work from a customer visit.

Trip details:
Distance: 56 Kilomenters
Road: Mostly highway with some stop and go.
Traffic conditions: Light

Car settings:
Driving Mode: Sport
Climate Control: Auto with economy mode enabled and temp set to 21 degrees

Average fuel consumption for the trip:

4.8 Liters per 100KM

That is not too shabby I would say.

Hey Ockie,

Have you extended your service plan?

Damn you:p, you have confused me. I have put off getting a Suzuki Swift cos the tyre prices are terrible and not sure what to get now.

I like the Bolt but was offered a bad trade in value.

I am keen on the Suzuki Swift but it costs R1600 per tyre.

I like the Opel Corsa 1.0T but the stupid essentia doesn't have an aircon.

I think I am going to wait it out. I am waiting for a guy from Tata to call me back with a better offer. He will consult his manager and get back to me.

I didn't realise that there is so much choice below 150k

Indecisive Pisces.

At R201800? Shameless!

Who needs that anyway if you can get yourself a Bolt with everything that should be standard on a car and more for only R177995...

I'll just leave this here:

And then point you to the relevant thread to debate/question this if you so wish:

The automatic climate control on the Bolt is really nice, and if you put it on manual and to the lowest temp you will freeze your tits off. :p
Ssssh :) it sounds like a really nice little car

Where'd you get that quote from?

The Swift has 185/60/R15, those are about R900 for Pirellis.

The 1.4 GLS model is 185/55 R16

The cheapest was Tyger Wheel & tyre.

General Tire (continental budget range) - R1500 per tyre.

Errols tyres has Firestones from R1000 per tyre but it is a k.@k tyre.

Falken was second cheapest.

I need tyres that perform well in the rain cos I live Cape Town.

I also called a few Suzuki dealerships to query tires and those idiots weren't helpful. I was either transfered from person to person or nobody could help me.

In the end I was turned off by the overall Suzuki experience and I am saving for a used Corsa at the end of the year or 2018.

That seems like an awful amount for a tyre. I paid R750 ea for my Firestone TZ200's (205/55R16). They are a lot better than the Conti PremiumContact 2's that were on the car when I got her, as those were downright awful in the rain

Tata set to reveal … a mid-engined sportscar?

If there’s one manufacturer we thought wouldn’t being entering the performance car game anytime soon, it would be Tata Motors. But it seems we may have underestimated the Indian manufacturer.

Yes, Tata has announced that it will be revealing a mid-engined sportscar at Geneva next month.

The new sportscar, reportedly called the Futuro, will be built under the newly announced Tamo sub-brand, which Tata says will “act as an incubating centre of innovation towards new technologies, business models and partnerships in order to define future mobility solutions”.

The Futuro teased in the image above will reportedly be the halo model for the brand and limited to just 250 units. Reports out of India suggest the Futuro will be priced at Rs 25 lakh (about R500 000) and will go on sale by mid-2018.

Autocar India says the Futuro will be powered by Tata’s turbocharged 1,2-litre Revotron engine (currently found in the Tata Bolt), boosted to develop 134 kW. Although this figure may seem relatively meagre, the Futuro will apparently be quite lightweight, with a target kerb weight of 800 kg.

The automaker will reportedly use a mix of composite plastics and aluminium to achieve this target weight, with carbon-fibre and other high-end materials having been ruled out in order to cut costs.

Interestingly, there are rumours hinting that the chassis was designed by the one and only Marcello Gandini.

I'll eat humble pie for a week if they can successfully do that.
