Huawei config for GameSpy

Hi,

So after all these years I finally got myself a connection at home :)

So the first thing I did after struggling for ages to get the full software on as opposed to that annoying lite version was open up my Rise of Legends to play my first ever online game! :)
Of course this is after I spent 30 minutes on facebook! :p

However when I tried to play any game it sort of does the loading screen thing and then when the game starts, within a second or two I get a message saying that I have not received any communication from the other players for over XX seconds. game over.

There is a notification in the lobby saying that in order for you to play you need to enable UDP 6112 Port forwarding...

What the *&^% does that mean?

I've also tried Rise of Nations Gold, which also uses the gamespy architecture and also had problems.

Some folks at work have told me that 3g HSDPA is not fast enough to handle it, but I just can't believe that. I would then get serious lag, not a straight "have not received anything from player x in 20+ seconds"?

I think that on a low level I can see them, but they can't see me.
Also, in the Gamespy app I get a funny warning saying that my external IP is different to my internal one.

Any ideas anyone?

By the way, if anyone else asks me if I've disabled my firewall or added to the exception list I'm going to have a heart attack. I spent 3 to 4 hours last night switching it on, off configuring Windows Networking UPnP components... (something I found on a blog somewhere)
Anyway nothing worked...

Cool,

This is exactly the problem I am having...

So when can we expect to see a gamer specific apn from Vodacom?
Can they just add another one with the necessary ports open? Or is it too expensive?

Must I start a petition or something?:D

Rise of Legends/Nations should play smoothly on 3G connection, all you need is to activate unrestricted apn. Got one myself and plays smoothly online.

Remote access

Good day , I am sure this topic has already been discussed, but cudnt find the thread, so bear with me.

Got a client that needs to get remote access to some of his sites which are not anywhere near helkom ( sorry Telkom).. anyway his offices are running 3G as is , as cost of resale copper seems to employing a large portion of people, and telkomis not installing anymore cables.. He needs to connect to these sites to be able to do remote admin and diagnostics.

So any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

So what you asking for? suggestions on which medium to connect to the offices like adsl, 3g, iburst etc or are you asking how to setup remote access?

Ventrilo server on my pc

Hi,

I've been trying to setup a ventrilo server on my pc at home, now i know the ip will change because i don't have a static but thats ok.

what i didn't know is that it seems that vodacom NAT's my public ip to a non routable ip on the wan port of my router?

I'm not sure if thats causing my problem but i've def setup my port forwarding correctly and i got my ip for www.myip.com. but still no ones seems to be able to connect to my server

unless vodacom is blocking certain ports i can't see why this isn't working? any help would be great :)

also if this isn't possible what does a static ip cost?

uTorrent connection

Hi Guys

Please can some one provide me with gudines on how i can get the port forwarding right. i am tring to improve the download speed on nm uTorront application. Its reporting that the configured port is being block. All the guide lines say that i must configure the port on my router/modem but i cant access my router and I dont know how to configure my 3G card to open this port or is it something that vodacom have to do for me. PLEASE HELP guys PLEASE:eek:

Confusing post. What connection are you using? ADSL or 3G? Router brand?

The guides about port forwarding are for ADSL.

ADSL=Figure out how to access the router configuration page
3G=Use unrestricted APN

Hi HavocXphere

I am using 3G, my current APN name is internet, should i change this to unrestricted.

Hi v3g

Do you guys do packet inspection on outbound? I find when Im on the road with my card and connect using 3G it does funny stuff

For example our mail server doesn't like storing sent messages on IMAP (SSL) (says something about APPEND command disallowed) and won't allow me to send SMTP via our office server (SMTPS).

It only happens on 3G and its fine when I connect remotely using ADSL.

I switched to using internetvpn and its still gives probs. I'll try unrestricted and see if that works.

Sounds like something is messing with your connection. Why don't you PM me all the gory details (as per my sig) and I'll ask the guys to escalate.

Some feedback: Changing to "unrestricted" sorted out the problems with secure imap and smtps and VPN link.

Thanks

Hi,

I need what seems to be the unristricted APN. I have a device (mobile internet IP server). It works with a sim card and needs a fixed IP and be public. I need to be able to connect to the sim cards IP from the internet. Will the unristricted APN allow this? How do I get on this APN?

You can find the application form here: http://www.vodacom.co.za/services/unrestricted_apn/unrestricted_apn.jsp

You will not get a static IP address. but you will get a dynamic routeable IP. So you will have to make use of a service like dyndns to access it.

Unrestricted APN area bound ?

Was using unrestricted APN in JHB, flew down to DBN and it connects but cant get anywhere?

Took me a while to figure out why street searches on my E71's GPS were coming back with "Not found". Switched to internet APN and all is fine.

V3G any idea ?
