I'm with Voda as it is, but I'm completing MTN application forms for the iPh4 and yhis is after i cancelled my MTN contract of almost 10 years 2 years ago.

This iPhone is making me do crazy things. What did Steve Jobs put into this stuff? :wtf:

Just got mine from an MTN store.

MTN 200 @ R379pm (comes with free iphone 16gb, R200 airtime, 25 sms's, and 150mb per month)

No pay in, phone was totally free, just had to pay R125 for the micro sim.
 
So I get this email from Vodacom around 10am, sez iPhone 4 is out of stock. Around 2pm I get a call from Vodacom's direct sales, asks am I interested in a iPhone. Yea, I say, but you're out of stock. 'Oh, really?' the saleswoman says, and then starts writing down o-u-t o-f s-t-o-c-k. Says she'll call back. To tell me what, I wonder. Hey Vodacom, I present corporate communications workshops, ya interested??
 
As the pace of this thread dies down so will the Iphone 4 hype!! :-)

As far as I understand if you buy the iPhone 4 before 30 September (anywhere in the world) you just need to get the free case app and apply for a free case within 30 days. Apple is ending the free case program after that.

8 grand for the 32GB, my friend at MTN told me people were shelling out 10K cash for iPhones this morning :wtf:
 
This is so sad :( My contract with vodacom i can renew on 8th October, and its a worked base contract and we only deal with vodacom apparetly not MTN, so guess what? Bye bye iPhone 4 for R380 and hello some other crappy fone vodacom got for R380 p/m aswell.

Every single month, I have to watch and avoid doing what I want with the phone, because I do not want to go over the limit. Vodacom says that the average iPhone user does not exceed 250mb, so why should they raise the limit? I say the average user does not exceed 250mb cause they cannot afford to pay their stupid out of bundle rates. If they had just increased the available data I would have been happy.

Their bundles are outdated. While they may be raking it in now, I hope they are not too surprised when they go belly up. Maybe not today, but with this business attitude, and the bitter taste they leaving in many customer’s mouth, it is inevitable. (Maybe by then, Trevor will be available again, so he can save them?)

Unfortunately, I am still stuck with my vodacom contract, and broken N97 (water damage, still being repaired after a month), until nov next year..

Besides the wlan.. 150MB? what on earth do the expect us to do with that... google for 3 minutes a day?! :sick:

150MB / 31 days = 4.83 MB a day... :whistle:

Honestly??! that's hardly even one small youtube video a day, on this "multimedia" phone. :cry:

Do these people think we're stupid? They have been selling much bigger than 150, 300 MB data bundles for years now, and then they give us a miniscule bundle with the iPhone 4 package, and then brag that their network is "More than capable of handling smart phone traffic" after the upgrade??! WTF :wtf: :wtf: :wtf:

Even 2GB (66MB per day) is a bit limiting, but at least you'd know that you can view at least one decent quality youtube video a day, and enjoy it on the "retina" display.

I got the same deal as SlightlyPeeved two years ago. And I found it to be more than I needed, especially when it comes to voice and sms (got something like 700 voice minutes unused by now and building up). Data was a bit limiting but when VC changed to a 60 day data window it worked out. Fact is, when it comes to data, I'm in an authenticated wifi zone most of the time (home, office, favourite restaurant/pub) and the iPhone switches to the fastest/cheapest connection so seamlessly, that I hardly ever need the 3G data.

So the new MTN deals look excellent! Now let's see if VC comes to the party, or will I need to port my number ...

No thanks. These prices seem a bit extortive and all things considered, a contract actually looks like a better deal. Heck, you can get an HTC Desire for R6000 and it's a pretty damn good phone too.

Back on topic:

All 32 gig iPhones seem to be sold out at mtn stores, but there is still some stock of 16 gig versions. Going tomorrow to get the phone from mtn.
 
Our corporate account manager from Vodacom called me today to offer me an iPhone 4. I am on an iPhone Talk 500 contract with 11 months remaining, and the pay in is approx R1600 if you have less than a year left on your contract. Apparently what they do is switch you to a R135/pm package in their system, buy the contract out (x months remaining X R135), and sign you onto a new 2 year contract with the "free" iPhone 4. I am keen to see if the man on the street gets offered the same deal. The account manager seemed to think so..
 
I found the "grip of death" reduced the bars on four out of four iPhone 4's (MTN staff units). In each case the signal started out at 3 bars, reduced to 1 bar... but the phones still made calls no problem on one bar.
