it's R989 for 5GB...I mean seriously now, look at your pricing

After your 5GB you get NO free local like Telkom does, but are greeted with R2 a MB prices  - so if you just go 50MB over, it pushes your total up to R1000 a month!

Please note that these prices are calculated WITHOUT a modem included - that's extra too!

it usually takes someone like mtn to drop prices to activate the "forseeable future" part. i wonder why

I think the time has come for me to move along as well - I'm tired of vodacom's expensive, mickey mouse internet - I need ADSL.

Never, ever, ever want to deal with bundles, BB Basic, BB Advanced, Shoddy VMC Software, Idiotic error messages, Shakey Signals, Constant Disconnects, OOB eating holes into my wallet, no free Local, expensive 3G.

I want it ALWAYS ON.
I want better latencies.
I want a bigger cap for the money i'm paying.
I want free local bandwidth (or throttled international, even if at 56K speeds)

Anyone tried screamer? are they good?

otherwise if I go ADSL, what can I get for about R1000 ?

Define "foreseeable future"? Customers like transparency, everytime.

"Foreseeable future" means when one of Vodacom's competitors breaks the cartel they're all in collusion with by unilaterally decreasing their prices and thereby forcing Vodacom to do the same.

I agree, I am sick and tired of my 2GB per month because paying R1000 for 5GB is just too much!

Come on Vodacom drop prices already, otherwise you are going to loose customers!

Seconded.

The foreseeable future can mean anything really. The sun will go bloody supernova in the foreseeable future as well.

I am quite satisfied with V3G service and coverage given my previous experiences with iBurst and Cell C. But Vodacom really need to look at their pricing to remain competitive--they can not keep ignoring the people who uses their products on an extensive basis, and are usually in positions make recommendations to other people--as on this forums.

Whatever happened to the talk of using our Talking points to get discounts on data packages?

Nah, I don't care anymore - they can keep their ridiculous prices for all I care - I want my nightrider special.

(I know how to operate a Downloader Application, set to get stuff for me at specified times aka "GetRight"? You even get one for Rapidshare!

I have already coded an application that will open a specified program at a specified time, like bittorrent for example, and close it automatically as well.

You da man Sandman!

I am bitterly disappointed and disgusted by this dreadfully bad news!
And to think after august we no longer get our 200mb free!

Foreseeable can be a year/years for heavens sake!
This is the worse news i have heard in 2009, after all the hype about change and here we are using embarrassingly puny and borrowed bandwidth.
Not to mention when broadband advance launched we were informed of another exciting announcement with regards to data bundles soon.

Then i gathered round my buddies around the telly for Vodacoms "big" announcement that fateful Sunday to be hysterically laughed at as the idiot in denim shorts began prancing around like a tosser.

Is 5gb [even after 12am potentially] too much to ask for now?

You have given me hours worth of voice after 12am and i have not used a second of it.
Loyalty means nothing to you and as of Friday i shall cancel my internet subscription with Vodacom INDEFINITELY![-R4680 per year loss for Vodacom.]

Besides im tired of sticking up for Vodacom telling the haters just wait and see as my friends joke at my mediocre and unreliable HSDPA connection.

Thanks for nothing!
PS. E220 usb modem for sale soon!

the only person that knew something of something, and got shtt done, was jannie. he left and is now working for iBurst, so the "points for data" idea will never materialize.

vodacom could decrease the price of data bundles on an annual basis, across all data bundles. vodacom introduces a local-only apn, not sure if vodacom can implement that. also, if vodacom could set up appropriately price data bundles for local, i dont that might work to well. just a thought, use it, dont us it.

PS. E220 usb modem for sale soon!

Best price I could manage for mine was R400 from cash crusaders. I took it. I smiled as I cut the sim card in half with scissors and tossed it into the bin. ADSL FTW.

Not bad.I will use the sale of my modem to fund my asdl installation. At least i will have local to browse this wonderful forum, when my cap runs out.Vodacom just kicks your butt rudely off their tempremental network.

Vodacom South Africa:
Employees: 4930
Attributable profit after tax : R6,089,000,000.00. (2009)
Customers: 11,989,000 (International) + 27,625,000 (South African) = 39,614,000 customers.

i.e. Each customer is overcharged R153 per year, or R12 per month for those profit margins.

Sauce : http://www.vodacom.com/reports/ar_2009/gr_five_year.php

Hardly excessive. Or did I miss the boat by an ocean?

Cash Generated from Operations: R16,351,000,000
By that, the profit margin per customer is R412...

Surely the customer is not responsible for tax payments (paid by customer), operating costs, debt and other liabilities for the company?

That does not really say much either--you need to look at the specific income and expense statements of the specific product (V3G) to get an idea how much profit is being made, what % is spent on the 3G infrastructure, baseline bandwidth costs, and the average cost per customer...
