Telkom have an interest in NOT providing business areas with higher speed. It's called competing with their expensive buisness products.

What number are you on, i managed to get 10 meg on the 031368 Beach 2 exchange iirc.

Agreed though im in Morningside with a healthy number of residential business/offices and after repeated attempts the Telkom call centre guys havent got a clue

031332

I still have not been upgraded :( I really dont know what is taking them so long.... bleh
I stay in De Bron, Cape Town.

I'm in Vredehoek, Cape Town and I got upgraded quite a while back.

I generally always get 400KB/s on my MWEB account.
When I use my SAIX (TI) account, I can get upto 1000KB/s consistantly.

Is telkom actually actively working at upgrading the exchanges? Or was this just a once off event, where only 2% of 4Mbps customers have been upgraded?

Well miracles never cease. Thought I'd check my line and see if exchange was upgarded and what do you know. Funny I cancelled all but one of my Telkom accounts in favor of MWEB uncapped service. For some reason my Telkom username/password is not working. When I get it up and running I'll let you guys know if is is any better. I'm in North of Pretoria BTW.

012 542 - Your exchange supports up to 10Mbps fastest ADSL. The provision of such a service is subject to port availability, distance, copper quality and line sync speed limitations.

Update:

Well ATM they said they are still testing so I got 6meg out them. Almost double what I had before cant complain. I check how stable it is.

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6144 kbps 640 kbps
Line Attenuation 47.0 db 26.0 db
Noise Margin 9.6 db 12.0 db

ADSL Support : Your exchange support ADSL

Max speed supported by your exchange: 4096

Your exchange supports ADSL. Unfortunately but due to infrastructure related problems cannot offer an ADSL service.

I'm still gobsmacked by the idiocy ......

It's all nice and wonderful they upgrade the exchanges but it doesn't help if they refuse to actually physically upgrade you.

Our exchange has supported 10mb for a while now but still no upgrade on our side...

That is probably related to the kuk speeds we've been having in Honeydew Ridge/Wilgeheuwel for a year now.

What I don't understand is http://www.broadbandstats.co.za/exchange/RPOA says the exchange is honky-dory...

Yep, our exchange has also been upgraded to 10mb a few weeks ago, but still no 10mb speed. Still getting 3mb :(

Well two Telkom Techie's I know say they are upgrading local exchanges at a hectic pace, they just don't know when we will start gaining the benefits of these upgrades ...

I am sitting just under 300 meters from a fibre connection box ...

Don't hold your breathe, my line was upgraded a few months ago and my speed is actually worse than it was before the upgrade. When I logged numerous faults I was told by a few call centre agents and technicians that everything was 100% as I was still synching above 1 Mbps. I am just sitting back waiting for the collapse of Telkom, which I sure will happen soon.

No upgrade at Sunward Park, Boksburg exchange. 4 MB max.
I get 3.46MB d/l and live 800m from the exchange.

Rediculous

I just sat on the phone for over an hour firstly with Telkom representitives telling me to dial different numbers and finally getting to the right place after holding for 40mins. Their response was... "all exchanges have been upgraded but 10mbps is not open to the general public"... Seriously, I had to wait that long for someone to be that unhelpful!
