Does anyone know when we will receive better deals? I mean R250 for MyMeg 500 is still expensive, when we will see the price either halved or the 500MB doubled?

Probably never. Vote with your feet I say. Bunch of crooks. You can get 6 gigs from afrihost for the price of 500mb from voda/Mtn. Disgrace!!
The disgusting thing is that Vodacom and MTN don't even pretend that they're not operating a cartel anymore. Their data bundles rates are exactly the same.
They won't lower the databundle price, because the Telkom line rental is helping them keeping the cartel save and sound.
I had a look at an ADSL line (spent R10K on Airtime last year, all for data bundle purchases.) My research, done in about 5 minutes revealed that:
I use about 2GB of data each month = R389, and I have 1.4mbs download and 384kbs upload.
Now, if I had to replace that with a Telkom line, say a 512mbs one, I end up with the following charges:
Faster ADSL Line rental: R326p/m
3GB ADSL Cap from a ISP come in at about R200p/m
Total estimated cost therefor comes to about R500 odd per month. For that, I had to loose almost 1mbs on my download speed, I do not have a mobile internet connection anymore....
So VC charges R389...Telkom solution comes to about R500..makes you think? (Or am I missing the obvious?)
My point is that for the average user, that uses 2 or even 3 GB per month
IMO, we only use on Average that amount because we're limited by the cost.
IF bandwidth was cheaper/free, we'd be spending more/the same money on buying Hard Drives![]()
Why are you comparing 3G to adsl????? You can't exactly use your adsl anywhere now can you?
I spend between R 389 and R 959 per month for access, and i know i can get much more data for those prices on adsl, but then i can only use my internet at home. I get 3.2mbps connectivity/downloads and can't complain about the speeds im getting. I do get the odd downtime, but that's understandable and its only a few hours every few months.
