Cheaper 3G Prices - Rep?

Just as a matter of interest , i was getting close to 4Mbps with a 3.6Mb Huawei E630 yesterday in Bellville............

Its about their pathetic pricing coming into effect from 1 May.
Who are they Fooling ?

It's about their 14.4 mbps speed which does not exist.
Who are they fooling ? How many users really achieve this promised speed.

It's about their pathetic excuses for not lowering call rates.
Even VodaCom 2 VodaCom is unrealisticly high for the prepaid users.

DXL - Team

So how is this any different to MTN or Telkom?

From home I can hit 3.6 fairly consistently. At work it's more like 1.8. Anything faster is still a dream.

For me its the other way around. At work on a good day i flatline 7.2Mbps all day. Most days it varies between 5 and 7Mbps.

At home is a different story. The speeds are pathetic and have been degrading for a while now. But i rarely use it at home so it doesnt bother me right now.

Yes well, thats what happens when Vodacom employees gets special access to the "look at me im special" APN! lol hehehehe. GIMME GIMME GIMME!!!!!

Sorry Dude , i was using the internet APN not the Corp..........same as you :)

Vodacon....LOL. Did make me laugh! :)

I cant complain about Vodacom's service, not a lot of downtime and like Morkhams said, VodacomData can fix things when the helpdesk cant. Almost like having a good maintenance plan when you buy a car.

As for the data bundles, it still feels expensive, but I always tend to forget that I dont need a Geldbom phone in my house - which does make me very happy.

Dont think Vodacom wants to lower prices too much before the World Cup, maybe afterwards we'll see more changes.

Vodacom - I Would like anyone at Vodacom to please answer me this 1 single question.

What good is 14mb/s if we pay close to R289 per Gig? At full speed downloading, it will run out after 9.5 minutes.

14Mbs / 8 bits = 1.75MBs.
1Gig / 1.75MBs = 571 Seconds
571 seconds / 60 = 9.5 Minutes

Vodacom: R300 for 9 Minutes and 30 seconds of Internet. Wow!

Edit:
And this ladies and gentleman, is your IN-Bundle Prices. after that first 10 minutes of internet you will be paying over R2,00 per second, so make sure you don't go over!

Skype has a standard mobile voice call rate of $0.233/minute. If I use a conversion factor of 7.4 it amounts to R1.72/minute.

Mmm...maybe we all should start using Skype to make mobile calls if we are near a computer.(the amount of data used to make a Skype call is almost neglect-able)

I cannot understand why Vodacom or MTN would simply not come down with their 3G prices. I suggest that anyone that can should move over to uncapped ADSL so that Vodacom and MTN can start experiencing the damage of losing customers and experience the same pain as we do with these high prices.

Unfortunately I am stuck with 3G, because Telkom wouldn't install a line for me due to cable theft in my area and Neotel does not have coverage in my area.

Please VodacomData can we have some feedback on this?

Suggestion:

Provide clients with uncapped 3G at say R389/month and limit the download speed to say 1.8Mbps and the upload to say 512kbps. I can live with that. Anybody else?

As you can see us as the clients are willing to negotiate and compromise. It's the principle of democracy. Why doesn't Vodacom want to? Loosing too much???

I don't think that this would be a good idea. Their network would grind to a halt. I would like to see R100 a gig or something in that region...

I could live with around R100 a gig

Like I said, we as the clients are willing to negotiate and yes I could also live with about R100/gig. That would reduce my bill by almost 50%. But then again, so will it with Vodacom, therefore the delay in price decreases.

We need to come up with an idea to force them. Any suggestions?

I think that it is fair and will keep their towers from dying with the burden of p2p etc. Maybe they could have bundles like the following: R100 for 1 gig, R189 for 2, R379 for 3 etc so that the price per gig gets cheaper the more you buy.

Short of ICASA and government getting involved I don't know if there is much that we can do. I applied for a Telkom line and am moving over to ADSL. I think the best way to get them to take notice is to vote with your feet. Unfortunately not everyone has choice though :(

You are very fortunate being able to apply for an ADSL line. Hopefully a lot of other 3G users will follow suite and ultimately assist us users who has no other choice than 3G.

I agree, I am sick and tired of my 2GB per month because paying R1000 for 5GB is just too much!

Come on Vodacom drop prices already, otherwise you are going to loose customers!

At the rate we are paying I think they can afford to loose a few customers.

This "foreseeable future" statement also means nothing to me. I want to see something concrete asap!!!!

If they kept bundles less that 2GB the same and had a better pricing model for above 2GB that would suite Vodacom and the customers however they are not budging. If I could pay say R689 for 5GB and R989 for 10GB, (a) Customers will be happy and (b) Vodacom actually makes more revenue because at the moment, I am only paying R389 for 2GB and rationing my bandwidth. But noooooo, they have blinkers on.

My point exactly: I also have to ration my bundles and try and keep my usage to a minimum. Hell, I don't even watch Youtube videos. It eats up too much data! It is just not fair where the next guy with uncapped ADSL can just about do what he wants at much less!!!!!!!!

At the current service levels in Nelspruit, even R100 per Gig is way too much.
Seriously I think some idiot in some office is playing musical towers, switching them on and off at random intervals.

But yes, R100 or under is definitely a step worth taking. THAT is the kind of rate-cut I am expecting to see.

Oh, and btw Vodacom... I have, just in this last 2 weeks alone, cost you 32 customers (33 possibly coz that one guy left without saying anything).
Oh did I fail to mention that a LOT of people actually pay me for advice on their IT-related queries?

Of course I could also have advised those 4 companies that a Vodacom Private Corporate APN would have best served their needs... too bad!

Oh and how I wish this was merely a personal vendetta against you... how I wish indeed. Fact is, when it comes right down to it, you are too incompetent and expensive.
Me recommending you at all, at this point in time, would be a disservice to any of my customers.

Gbye!

Yes, I also advise people against this expensive service and recommend ADSL where possible.
