Wait, what? I havent visited this page in a very long time, what this about WebAfrica managing DSL lines?

More than likely pooled their resources together to get better pricing from OpenServe. Just sad that once again no regard has been given to confidential customer information, and yet again confidential customer data sits at a 3rd party without the knowledge nor consent of customers.

As CWM said, "It is unfortunate that such confidentiality has failed." 3rd time now in my books.

I am confused here. What confidential customer information are you alluding to?

Am I hallucinating? Communication! Thank you! I do have one question, though, which I doubt will be answered, but anyway...

This has been a problem for 2 full days, we're well into the the third day now. Openserve was blamed by support staff 2 days ago already in a prepared copy/paste message. I'm assuming that this has just been worded poorly, but you make it sound like you were waiting for 2 days for someone to tell you that there was a problem with Openserve rather than investigate and fix as soon as you were aware of the problem on Tuesday.

But thanks again for actually commenting. I'm looking forward to having a working internet connection again tonight.

^^ What he said.

(06:49:28 PM) Support Warrior: Ok I think its part of Telkoms/openserver upgrade that is taking place
(06:49:37 PM) Support Warrior: Openserver are currently upgrading their systems and has caused line to sync at 2mb/s the line should be back to normal within 24 hours

Look at the time/date. Clearly CW knew something back then already - as newinza said, 2 days ago...

EDIT: Seems I took too long to reply. Saw CW reply to the lines not supposed to be moved to the holding pool.

Thanks for the (belated) clarity.

To be honest, the best compensation you can give me is that you promise (and keep) the following things:
1) When there is a problem, don't hide. Communicate. Even if the communication is "we're aware that there is a problem, but we don't know what the problem is yet", then that's a lot better than the radio silence that's your current MO.
2) If you don't know, say you don't know. Tech support told me that this was an issue affecting other ISPs too and not Crystal Web-specific, which is now confirmed to not be true.
3) Own up to your problems. I don't care who you blame internally. My relationship is with you and you alone, not Openserve, not Telkom, not Web Africa, not IS and not whatever supplier lost your customer database twice. You won't earn any reputation points by blaming others, quite the contrary in my book at least.

If you could promise the above, and keep it, heck even just one of the above things, then I'd much prefer that to anything else I can think of that you could do to compensate for this week's problems.

Exactly.

Basically, don't become Afrihost - that is why I moved.

So good luck with that.
Telkom is now an ISP. They won't manage lines for other ISPs any more.
So the ISP now HAS to manage the line with a wholesale provider - openserve.

My VDSL line is with Telkom. Tried to move it to CW and gave up after a few weeks.

Still only getting 4MB on my 10MB account. Reset my router, unplugged my line and plugged it back in again etc. So... erm... what now?

I seem to be back on 4mb again. Interestingly downstream is syncing @ 4095kbps rather than 51xx it had been for the past few months.

So I just got back home again, happy to see that some people here reported at least some improvement. However, I'm still stuck at 2043/502. Either Telkom's business day ends really late or I guess it won't be fixed till some time tomorrow the earliest.

I also just arrived home from a meeting, full of hope only to be disappointed. Still only 5% of what I am paying for.

I moved away from Web Africa because of the disaster in how they managed their accounts, shaping, data... experience got beyond bad for me, then I found Crystal web. Dont like hearing there is confidential operations between WA and CW happening in the background and seriously hope I dont end up with a similar experience as I had back then.

So far so good however.

That has ended hence the Openserve process.
