DStv streaming change breaks useful app feature

DStv's new concurrent stream limit has inadvertently broken a useful feature on its mobile app — wireless screen casting.

Several users have reported the app is mistakenly detecting casting instances as two different streams playing at once.

Well that is one solution but its also not great if I want to stream on my phone away while kids are at home. Device verification should be implemented and maybe some IP Block intelligance for mobile vs fixed.

Its a tricky one but the pure IP restriction is a problem and the restriction to only one is daft as well.

Normally companies try to improve their product/offerings. DSTV seems to be making their offering products worse every time.

Bit of a unneccesary hoop. I think just x number of devices where device agents are interrogated and mined against. A little bit of log parsing and automated monitoring would go a long way and improve consumer angst against this.

Netflix are tackling a similar issue, will be very interesting to see how they overcome the same problem as they have also ruled out the pure ip restriction but claimed to be investigating other means.

I've tested their streaming limit and in my case it doesn't seem to be working (which is a good thing). I've got DSTV Now on 2 Xiaomi Miboxes and I'm able to concurrently stream on both without any problems.
