The picture quality is about as bad as it gets. It almost hurts your eyes. I saw one which was unable to display any blacks, they were displayed as blue lol
 
I think there was a problem with that one then, as I've seen Sinotecs that are fine, I do know they changed their panels about a year ago.

At least with Samsung/LG/Sony you know you're getting a decent panel and internals.

My 19" Sinotech new range LCD is shocking at SD TV. Must be a TN panel.

No, it was normal on that screen. The TV was a few years old though.

Buying a Sinotec is kind of like buying a 10 year old code 3 Tazz with a new paint job for the price of a new Golf
 
I had a 42Inch Sinotech, and it was perfectly fine for what it was....

Picture quality wasn't the best but it v definately wasn't shockingly bad either.
 
A 32" Sinotec goes for R3500. A friend of mine just got an LG LED FHD 100Hz for R3500... The Samsung 5 Series LCD also goes for R3500...

A 42" Sinotec goes for R4700. For that price you can get a 43" Samsung Series 4 Plasma. Samsung 40" Series 5 LCD also goes for +-5500.

Why buy a cheap China knock off when it costs almost the same to get a proper TV? Rather scale down on size than buy something crap...

IMO, stay clear of HiSense, Sinotec and Logic. There're good reasons why these TVs don't even get sold in most of Europe and America; its because they're cheap knockoffs with bad quality picture. I think its an absolute disgrace how these TVs get advertised and marketed here. But retailers can pull it off because 99% of people here have no clue about technology.
 
Oh now I do agree with both of you guys....

A few years ago Sinotech etc were considerably cheaper than the branded options, and not too far off the quality.
 
I had a 47" Sinotech and the picture quality was great. Used it with PC to play games, watch blu-rays/dvds and also for normal PC use. Never watched SABC/DSTV with it.

Would do it all over again if needed.

I had to watch on a few Sinotecs at friends. I also looked at them in the shops. It used to make me sick, on DSTV, on BluRay, on DVD, on PS3 and on PC.

If I had to do it all over again I would jump off the balcony.

Not sure about that exact model, but I have something close, the LA40C530 (missing Ethernet/Internet features of the x50). Would also assume Samsung did some minor tweaking between the C (2010) -> D (2011) models.

As I also picked up my set for the equivalent of < R5000, I'm very happy with the price to performance it provides. Sure it wont match a 40"+ set costing many R1000s more, but with quality input (HDMI based) & proper setup, in my opinion the performance/quality difference is pretty small compared to the vast price difference (double or more).
 
I've been following prices of 40/42" the last few months as I will be getting one end of next month and while I've never had a problem with other non Sony/Samsung brands but when I look at the current pricing I see no reason in saving R99 when you get twice the features & quality, different story when your talking about R4-5K.

Will be looking at the Samsung range.

No DSTV. HTPC, PS3, Xbox.

Don't tell me to get a plasma, this has been said already and i care very little for it.

Cant find it on their website but in the Sunday times there is a makro catalogue advertising it. Valid from 19 june - 27th June
Considering it was on "special" for R5999 at game 3 days ago... R4999 makes it look tempting.

Yep, the do a D550 (50Hz, normal CFL backlit LCD), but AFAIK, all the other models (higher range) are LED backlit. So anything with 100Hz or better is LED.
