The SSG2100 glasses are infra red shutter glasses that only work on pre 2011 Samsung TVs. 2011 TVs use 3x00 bluetooth shutter glasses.

Thanks. Know which glasses are in the Shrek bundle? a google search tells me it's the SSG2100. I'll go in and check though.

Gads! Replacing my old Samsung CRT (within budget constraints) is proving to be a mission! Been reading this and other forums over and over and over. I was hoping to do it under R10K but not looking so "rosy" anymore. I want >= 42" if possible. I was *seriously* considered Plasma (purely on the back of all the post in this forum) but still have genuine reservations w.r.t. very unfriendly lighting as a result of window positions and will be running an HTPC so concerned about image burn.

Macro currently have LG 47LW4500 (47" Full HD 100Hz LED) plus 5x 3D glasses plus LG Blu-ray player plus 1 Blu-ray 3D Title for R13999. More than I was hoping to spend but really looks like a good deal.

I've always loved Samsung though - problem is that the one I would like truly is restrictively expensive!
HiFi Corp currently have the LA46D550 for R7999 which is MUCH easier on the pocket! 'Tis only 60Hz though according to my understanding and one thing that seems to be recommended on these forums big time is a good refresh rate (i.e. 100Hz or higher). HiFi Corps 46" Series 6 (which it truly delicious) is currently going for R20K which is just ridiculous - ain't no way I can do that. It does come with a free Galaxy Tablet but I wish they'd just discounted the price proportionately and kept the Galaxy Tab!

Anyone here care to comment or provide opinion - especially on Macro's current LG Special? It would be appreciated!

It really depends on what you are going to be viewing, also restricting yourself on the refresh rate of an LCD shouldn't be done, yes some people will go it's the only way you must have higher etc... But if you've not actually gone out and seen the differences you won't really know your own opinion, personally I've got that 46D550 and for 60hz it's fine, there really isn't a problem. A little while ago I saw someone mention game was selling the LG 47" below the model you've mentioned for around R7999 and it's 100/120hz.
But your best bet is to go out and view the TV's yourself, some see judder while others don't, some see ghosting etc...

Image burn in would only be a possibility for extensive use in Windows - i.e. permanent Start bars, icons, windows, etc.

But yeah, bright rooms generally mean plasma is a no go.

Of course, they offer bast bang for buck and overall picture quality, especially the lower end ones.

Necro_guy, did u buy that 42" LG lcd?

No i didnt, im still waiting for stocks to arrive to arrive on the Samsung LA40D550, looks like ill be waiting foreever, i still have that voucher they gave so i can get it at R4999. The Lg looks like a good option though at Makro, great price.

Not sure how good the Ips panels are to the sammys, but they do look good instore.

I bought the Shrek bundle. They are SSG3100.

I've got the kit as well and it is SSG3100GB. Sensorei, what does it say on your Blurays. On mine says "for promotional use only - not for retail". That is f...in BS man. This is absolutely illegal what Makro is doing. They are not allowed to sell them. I'm going back tomorrow to have a chat to the managers. I will contact Samsung as well. This kits suppose to come with the TVs and what Makro is doing is selling them separately. TIA man, i'm speechless at the moment.

The Samsung store was selling this same Shrek bundle for R1500 not long ago. They actually phoned me to tell me about this "special promotion". No point complaining. They will just say that the blu-rays are free and that you are paying for the glasses.

Got tired of waiting around for bargains & set myself this weekend to finally make a decision. After some fevered online searching I eventually landed on the Cats website and under Demo / Discontinued models found what I was looking for - at the right price. Very happy with my purchase - you get the original guarantee & save a few bucks - but, obviously, Buyer Beware when picking up a Demo - make sure it's in good nick before plonking down your cash.

What do you guys think about the LG 42LV3710 (http://www.hificorporation.co.za/product/1034748/lg-tv-42-led-42lv3710-smart/)?
I believe Makro has them on special for R7999. I believe it is 100Hz however I'm struggling to find a link that can confirm this.

I really really really want the Sammy UA46D6000 but the cheapest place I've been able to find them is Cats for R12999 and regardless of how much I want it, there is no way I can justify spending R13K on television.

I was hoping to get a 46" at least but the LG seems pretty good bang for buck so I may have to compromise on the size a bit.

Does anyone know if there's a better TV to be had for R8K?

You might be able to get a Series 6 46" LCD for around R10,000. Most feel this is better than the 6 Series LED back-lit version.
