OS X 10.5.2 & VMC 2.08.05.04 issues

Anyone here tried using the latest version of VMC as stated in the title under OS X 10.5.2? I'm well aware that its not necessary to use the VMC software though.

The problem is that VMC just refuse to open up at all. I'm using a Novatel Merlin XU870 from T-Mobile UK, which connects fine without VMC. Even without having the card inserted, VMC won't load.

Any suggestions? :sick:

OS X 10.5.2 & VMC 2.08.05.04 issues

I've got the latest Vodafone Mobile Connect (2.08.05.04) working with a Novatel XU870 modem with a MacBook Pro on 10.5.2 with VIP in Croatia. The deal is that every few days some preference gets corrupted and VMC seizes up. When VMC is launched, it bounces in the dock for a while, then appears in the menu bar but is completely unresponsive. At this point the only solution (that I've found) is to uninstall and reinstall VMC. It takes a few minutes (because it requires a restart), but it works every time.

Hope this helps.

im running smoooooothly.... on leopard. never had anything go bad for ages now???

Hi
Hope some one can help,
I have been running vodafone mobile Broadband for around 4 weeks on my two macs. Both have now stopped opening the program. I click on the icon in the dock it jumps around as if to open. And that's the end !!. Nothing happens after this the program does not load. Have to force quit it to switch off the mac.

Running Mac OS X 10.4.10 on a iMac G5 also mini mac running the same. They have developed the fault at different times. Huawei modem is fine and is still getting the signal

Have not changed anything on it that I know of. Have lost power while program open but can not say if this has anything to do with the problem

Have reinstalled the vodaphone software. Spoke to vodafone which was no help. Is it possible not to use the vodaphone program and set it up with the mac network stuff, if i can get the number the modem dials off vodaphone ??

Regard Irishhat

I've come across this multiple, and as i dont know my way around a MAC, or know MAC at all, i have been unable to find a cause and solution.

Could it possibly be MAC updates that causes this?

Why not try creating a manual dial-up with the modem? It should work.

Hi all,

I am helping a friend with her Macbook, running OS X 10.4. She had been using the version supplied with the 220 (Vodafone branded) on it with no problems. Then she moved the modem to it to a a Windows PC where the built-in ISO software was used with success. When she tried moving the modem back to the Macbook, the software stopped working. Now, whenever she starts the VMC Software, the menu changes to VMC's, but non of the menus can be clicked. Also, the Activate window doesn't appear and nothing happens when the modem is plugged in.

We tried downloading the latest version from the Vodacom website (2.07.03), removed the previous version (dragged it to trash from the Applications folder) and installed the new one. However, exactly the same thing happens. The application can't be quit (force quit doens't work either). This in turn means that the machine can't be shut down.

Any suggestions?

I've still seen this problem, with no reason as to what causes it.

And the only workaround for it is to disable the PIN and dial up manually.

The side effect of having to do that is that you lose control over the switch to 2G, 3G and HSDPA.

Vodacom GPRS (Mac OS X) bluetooth connection

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask,but I've searched the forum for 2 days now for this topic and couldn't find one where it was actually explained.Hopefully someone can help.

Here is the situation : My girlfriend is trying to connect to the internet using vodacom pre-paid motorola v3 razr and Mac OS X.I've gone through various websites looking for the correct settings and it appears to differ from site to site.So I'm hoping someone can maybe explain the settings she needs to use to connect to the GPRS on vodacom network.

She's already downloaded both the Motorola GPRS and the Motorola Generic modem script,but the former just doesn't initialize at all,the generic script causes the dial up attempt to reach the 'authenticating' stage where eventually it gives the error of "connection couldn't negotiate ppp...".

Can someone please supply me with the correct settings for each of the properties needed for setting up the connection,including 'telephone number,'CID string' etc

It will be greatly appreciated,thanks

Vodafone Mobile Connect programme not opening

Hi, I need Mac help please. I've been using the 1GB Huawei E272 modem on my Mac laptop with no problems for 3 months now and suddenly the Vodafone Mobile Connect programme won't open. It works fine on my PC - which is how i'm typing this - but refuses to open on the Mac. This is always how I used it: open VMC programme, detect signal, connect, close, open Internet Connect and connect. But now it won't open. I've uninstalled it, installed it again from scratch, still no joy.

Any suggestions?

The uninstall/reinstall trick should have done the trick. If you just trashes it, it wont make a difference. You need to run the setup again, select uninstall from the list and let it uninstall and then reinstall.

Also try downloading the latest mac dashboard from Vodacom's website.

Thanks - I did just trash it, did the uninstall and now it works!
I can't find the dashboard download on Vodacom site - only the mac installer I already have?

Hi,

Anyone downloaded the latest dashboard software from Vodacom's site? Version 2.09.01.03 is available. It works, however I have found two issues, more irritations ;-)
Firstly whenever my E220 is connected to the Mac or on reboot when the E220 is plugged in a message "Insert disk" appears on the screen. Selecting "Ignore" solves this one. This is the minor annoyance, the 2nd one is that the new drivers write out the following message continuously in the system log:

2008/08/31 1:10:27 PM kernel ::AddtoQueue: Enter, Size = 46.
2008/08/31 1:10:27 PM kernel ::AddtoQueue: Exit, Return: 46.
2008/08/31 1:10:27 PM kernel ::RemovefromQueue: Enter, MaciSize = 1020.
2008/08/31 1:10:27 PM kernel ::RemovefromQueue: Exit, Return: 46.
2008/08/31 1:10:27 PM kernel ::RemovefromQueue: Enter, MaciSize = 1020.
2008/08/31 1:10:27 PM kernel ::RemovefromQueue: Exit, Return: 0.
2008/08/31 1:10:27 PM kernel ::dataReadComplete: dingjianjian = 0
2008/08/31 1:10:27 PM kernel ::dataReadComplete: State:-431226754, Read len:93, return status 0.

There are a number of articles on the web relating to this problem, seems like the Huawei developers forgot to remove some debug messages in their drivers ;-)

Oh well back to 2.08.05.04.

Works Great

My VMC software also suddenly stopped working after 1 week of success under Leopard.

There is an easy workaround for Leopard users :)

1. Put your SIM card in a phone handset and disable the PIN
2. Under network preferences, create a new service (+sign), interface setting is Huawei mobile.
3. Telephone number is *99# (Leave Username and Password blank)
4. Under Advanced, Vendor must be set to "Generic", Model to "GPRS (GSM/3G)", APN to "internet", CID to "1"
5. You can now connect without the VMC software

You can now drag the VMC software into the trash!

Thanks "gh05t" that works great for me and really is much less hassel than trying to connect the VMC all the time, which always gives me hassels!!!
Just plug in the modem and hit connect!!! Nice!!! :)

The other solution suggested - download the latest VMC installer (2.09.01.03), from vodacom: http://www.vodacom.co.za/services/mobile_data/downloads.jsp
Note start the installer and from the drop down options first UNINSTALL the old VMC, and then re-install, reboot, and it works fine again.

I'm still curious to know what causes VMC MAC Dashboard to hang like that after a while, eventhough we have the solution to fix it.

Has Vodafone investigated this issue V3G?

Vodacom Prepaid with Huawei E169

Hi there,

I owned a Huawei E169 and try now to connect with Vodacom Prepaid .
Upgraded the E169G firmware to 11.314.17.00.00 . Also installed Voda Mobile Connect 3G 2.09.01.03 but dont understand what the SW actually does.

I use OS X 10.4.11, Internet Connect with Tel. Nr. *99***1# ; no Acc.name or password, signal is Good.

Everything seems fine except when I try to login I get the error message No carrier detected. Please check phone line. ( In other international blogs I saw the same problem/ question and it sounded like the sim card was not activated but I had that checked in a Vodacom shop.?)

Could someone help me please ???

Hi All. I have been having a fairly painful time with my Huawei E220. I have no idea what happened to it but it just stopped working completely yesterday (which altho not suprising, its probs the most troublesome piece of hardware ive ever owned, the fact that it totally stopped working was unusual). Now before I get into anything too deep, I use this modem for both my Dell laptop and my iMac, which before yesterday it worked fine/ish on both.

Anyways to cut a long story short, no matter what I did this morning, I couldnt get it to work so I ended up updating the flashing the firmware. That took about an hour (including uninstalling and re-installing the VMC software a few times) but now it seems to be A-OK (way better than it was before i might add). But. It doesnt work on my mac now ?! I'm presuming it has something to do with the firmware upgrade, i've loaded the newest VMC software on the mac and still no luck. I just get an "cant read card" (or something to that affect error) and the icon just keeps on bouncing, I have to force quit to get out.

Anybody know what I can do....if it means downgrading the firmware then that's what needs to be done, its imperitive that it works on both machines but...anybody know where I can get 2.11 firmware ???
