MWEB shaping theory

I noticed the same thing!

this weekend it seems my Torrent downloaded are shaped to EXACTLY 300kB/s...
was the funniest thing to watch, at first i had one download going fast at 300kB/s then i introduced another and the speed dropped to 160kB/s while the seconds one went to 140kB/s... it did this the whole night. jumping from 100kB/s and 200Kb/s to 120kb/s and 180kb/s so i could see its exactly 300 all the time obviously not exactly like it was 192kb/s and 110kb/s but still very strange..

anyone know if its by any change TPB that does this?

Oh my dear fellow Sharks Supporter. Please tell me you have peerblock, and STOP using TPB. That site is so heavily tracked it's unbelievable.

I appreciate at R539 a 4mb truly unshaped, uncapped product is unsustainable. The real McCoy goes for R1999. Why not introduce a 2048/512 product at R899 that is truly unshaped and uncapped with a 250gig soft cap...??

If a product has a soft cap..the its not uncapped

I understand a soft cap to indicate heavily throttled speeds but still allowing connectivity, therefore uncapped as opposed to hard cap, no connectivity at all, therefore capped..

lolz, using peerblock but also TPB, tbh i only use it because it has a top 100 feature :)
you know any better ones?

Ag, gave up on torrents hey.

They are clearly shaping news servers though. Was getting 7 threads (don't ask how) through them but now only getting 3.

I honestly think that the guy who started the "Openweb uncapped 384k GOLD daily feedback" thing is doing a very good job right now.
Yeah, thats a good idea & would be useful for all the uncapped offerings.

One thread for each & get the mod to sticky them. Then ask mod to delete anything that isn't a status report. With a couple of people involved on would also get a better overview.

I'm not on uncapped/fluctuating bw so someone else will have to take the initiative.

btw newsservers are practically never shaped in any way or form. The slow-downs come from the fact that the demand exceeds supply w.r.t. resources available, which isn't really shaping.

maybe i should start one with mweb 4mb/s uncapped?

EDIT: and then when people which uncapped is better ( which happens like everyday)
we just say:

Openweb 4mb/s uncapped - link
Mweb 4mb/s uncapped - link
Afrihost 4mb/s uncapped - link
Axxess 4mb/s uncapped - link

MWEB's shaping Is driving me insane!

I have a 512k MWEB uncapped package and I am NEVER able to get more than 20kb/s with Torrents. This is on weekends, nights, public holidays, days whatever.

Actually most of the time I cannot even get to 20 kb/s, my average download speed on torrents is more like 10 kb/s.

Some of the time my downloads drop to below 5 kb/s and this is with torrents that have thousands of seeders.

I find this pathetic because on a 512k line I should easily be able to achieve an average speed of 40 kb/s on weekends.

If anyone figures out a way if improving this, please DO let me know!

BTW: I also have various logins on the different networks eg @dsl512two.co.za and dslmweb.co.za and mweb.co.za and they all suck equally as badly!

From what I can see they pool all shaped services (webistes, p2p, newshosts) under the same speed limit. This is typically 10kb/s in peak times, 40kb/s off-peak and 150kb/s after midnight.

Yes, this has also been my experience; just no 150kBps after midnight of late. Hope it's not related to the reduction in max peer connections to 100.

my 512kps at home i youtube fine getting full speed, download from rapidshare also 50kps, going up 70 sometimes during office hours. must have good congestion ratio.

at work with 8mb sync speed at office hours i get 30bks speedtest, afterhours the bugger goes 600kbs torrents o.0
