Back in those days I wouldn't jump straight to fully synthetic. My 2007 Buell only got fully synthetic (in the engine) by 16 000km as before then it wasn't playing nice.

Gearbox didn't like synthetic anything and got pure mineral.

Remind me what bike it is again? Shared engine/gearbox oil?

I assume it has full synthetic oil already in it since it looks and feels very different to the mineral oil I'm used to.

I've also read that it's usually not a good idea to put mineral oil in an engine that had synthetic oil in it. (You have to clean the clutch plates first)

Yes it's shared engine and gearbox oil. The bike is a Venox and to be more specific, the engine is the same as what you get in the Honda Magna. Only difference is that the later model Venox like mine is fuel injected.

Then the safer bet might be semi-synthetic if you don't know what's currently in there.

Then you can flush it next time and move to fully synthetic.

I actually don't see why they would be running fully synthetic in a 250cc at all. More than likely it's got special running in oil in there right now which is why it feels different...not that I would every go by feeling when it comes to oil.

Also it being a 250cc I think going fully synthetic would be somewhat of a waste anyway.

I would say the advantages of using synthetic oil outweighs it's cost. I too would probably not bother putting synthetic oil in a cheap Chinese 250, but the Venox cannot be compared to them.

It has a high revving/high performance "little" engine that's almost equal in performance to modern 250/300 Japanese bikes.

Remember the main purpose of fully synthetic oil is longevity to extend the mileage between service intervals on modern bikes, because it doesn't break down as quickly.

So especially if you are doing your own services and sticking to the schedule strictly then semi-synthetic should more than do the job.

But if you want to do fully synthetic it shouldn't do any harm. Some older bikes just generally don't like it, especially in the gearbox.
 
So the scooters belt finally snapped this morning ... spare belt and rollers has been laying in the garage for weeks ...
 
So it seems that Bavarian Centurion runs a competition at the moment where each week they give a pair of Rallye gloves to an owner who had their bike serviced there that week. I was the lucking winner this time and I am busy breaking in the new pair. I am however surprised how my previous set became like a second skin over the 9 years of use. I am almost tempted to keep the new ones in storage because the old ones just sit so comfortably.

I have short fingers. It sucks.

and in other news, i have to go renew my car license before I can get my bike license disk.... like an idiot I forgot it expired.

I don't have the longest fingers either. Got some shorties from Fourways Motorcycles that qork quite well (for my needs). Thor Spectrum I believe:

To be fair gloves are always a bit of an issue and take a day or three to get used to.

Are you finding there is a massive space at the top of the fingers or what?

yes. like 1-2cm. I even took them to our local leather shop to ask them if they could shorten the fingers, they said they couldn't

General.
For sailing I use half finger gloves for that reason.
