Parkrun

It's a great initiative. People are at least getting out there and doing some sort of exercises.
Hopefully come winter time they tough it out

One women at Voortrekker carries the weight that she has lost since she started Parkrun in a rucksack, to remind her of what she weighed when she started.

She is now doing the 5km in under an hour.

I use MapMyWalk to track my pace etc., thought the Strava app looks interesting as well.
My main tracking app is Sports Tracker that I used way back from my Symbian days. I import my workouts to Strava for the segment achievements you can do. Especially for cycling Strava is a very fun app, although I am not actively chasing achiements, KOMs and other goals.

I have completed two runs at Bellville (Danie Uys Park, opp HS DF Malan). We average about 500 into about the 8 weeks it is going. We are running low on volunteers. We normally have some high school laaities doing sub 18's at the front.

I enjoy how quickly the stats become available a few hours later on the Saturday!

Yeh my son did a park and run a couple of weeks ago, his first one, and finished 17th, I think it was somewhere in the 22 minute mark. Insane, because nobody else in the family can run more than 200metres, walk yeh, thats easy but run, pffft.

His team mate does it in around 15 minutes, but he was born to run.

Did my first parkrun this weekend at the Modderfontein reserve. It was very nice, but my god did I suffer. I did not like the path though. Very uneven. Makes for a very uncomfortable run and put your foot down wrong and you begging for a strained ankle. Saw two different people fall down actually.

Doing one again this coming weekend, but at a different one where our Collie will be allowed to run with us.

I did park runs and as getting into it but I keep twisting ankle so can't anymore. Kinda have to stick to only cycling

Always run in good shoes. I started in NB 400s and they were way too lightweight for me. Since then it has always been Nike Pegasus or Asics Nimbus.

First time this year, massive crowd and I turned up just before the start and had to start from the back - I only managed 24:11

Inaugral at Golden Harvest (Park near the Northgate Dome in Randburg) this morning. 426 people and lots of happy dogs.

If you want a tough parkrun in JHB then this is the one!

One guy completed it on crutches in just over an hour.
