Pricing on Static IP

Hi,

I’m considering getting a static IP for my fibre line, my current ISP (Cool Ideas) is charging R100/month. I haven’t found too much information online, but I’ve seen a couple of other ISPs advertising static IPs from around R39 - R59 per month.

Would anyone be willing to share what they’re currently paying for a static IP, and with which provider? I’d appreciate the insight.

I pay R55 for a bundle which is a static IP and exitlag.

Hence asking the open ended question as often people only know about one way to do things.

Only reason I still see for static IP is for self hosting business or website. Too much work for my brain and hours and hours trying to figure out why something is blocked by the route/network/firewall..... Synology also supports Tailscale (or should I say Tailscale support Synology) if you want to remote access or stream.

You also don't have to muck around with open ports and firewalls etc.

I haven't had the need to use it in a while though as I have been mostly home and Synology updated to DSM7 which meant I had to reconfigure. I'm lazy.

But that’s just the thing you don’t need it for hosting anything either.

The vast majority of websites out there right now aren’t using static or even direct IP’s any more.

HI there, we charge R100p/m. You can purchase this through your client portal under the "Services" Tab :)
 
Wireguard works well and and is as simple as clicking on Software, updating the lists and installing luci-proto-wireguard and qrencode on OpenWRT. That then generates a QR code for your mobile phone if you need that. You could make use of No-IP, or Dynu, or DuckDNS to circumvent the need for a static public IP. Personally, I have a static IP because you never know when the DNS provider is offline.

Once connected, you use Wake-on-LAN to turn on your PC, if it's not something that's powered 24/7.
