Ask the call center to reset your 4Mb line to the 8Mb sync profile, as Telkom is conducting trials on your exchange - it worth a try.
nothing ventured, nothing gained

I am sure if this is one of those "sign-up-voluntary-testing-programs"? If it is Telkom, and you're listening, I'd be obliged to take part in the trial :D

They are most probably going to wait until the trial and migration of 4Mb users to 8Mb has been completed, then wait a few months, and only then bump up 384Kb speeds to 512Kb, and 512Kb to 4Mb.

But if they are starting to upgrade entire exchanges, then I'm sure the commercial launch isn't that far off!

So if you want to order DSL, you have to decide between 384kb, 512kb and 8mbps, wow, the gap is even bigger than the gap between the rich and poor in this country!

Next time hire someone who plans better. 1mbps, 2mbps and 8mbps would've worked much better.

Guess they keep the speed so low that users are eventually forced to upgrade to 4mb (8mb)

Not that I would be bumped up in any case since I am on a 384 line, but would I be correct to assume that if the 4MBps users had been upgraded, my modem would be showing ADSL2+ and not ADSL_G?

My router always displayed g.dmt with a max attainable rate of 18mb before I upgraded my line to a 4mb. After I upgraded it displayed adsl2+ and with a max attainable rate of 22mb.
I downgraded my line to a 384kb line again and it stayed on adsl2+ but my max attainable rate dropped to 8mb.

I really don't think you would know for sure whether your line has been upgraded by looking at this info. Rather just look at your sync profile in you router.

Can any1 who gets upgraded please tell us the area you live in.

Garsfontein

My number starts with 998, live a few blocks away from the Constantia Park exchange.

Poor Telkom

Some of you guys really give Telkom a hard time, some comments are true others are just from a lack of knowledge. Telkom did not invent ADSL, its a technology that has its boundries. It must work on copper and the length of the copper from the DSLAM is limited to 5KM. The closer you are situated to the DSLAM the faster your line can be. Some of us already cannot have 4mb because of these limitations, not because Telkom is being funny, so goodluck to those who will be able to have 8mb, I am limited to 384k because I live on the border of my exchange area, if they had to scrap 384k many people will not have ADSL because of the technical limitations.

I live within 1km from the Telkom exchange and can only get a max of 3Mbps.

Poor telkom.....my @$$!!

I bet you all of a sudden all these ISPs, yes you know who you are, who have done squat with their pricing, will use this to create another package to charge for, 384 / 512 / 1mb / 4mb / 8mb, and now suddenly new deals new prices and new BS!

Well considering you CT folks are generally "chilled" down there im sure 4mbit will be just fine for you guys

Called them and asked them to reset my line to 8Mb, and the lady said to me that the 8Mb trial hasn't started yet...So they reset my line, and still on 4Mb :( Hope they will do my line soon...cos i'm on the same exchange as Friggs as far as i can tell...
