VPN Connections from outside SA

My VPN connection works fine within SA (using IPSEC tunnel), but I am unable to connect to my SA router when I am in the USA. Have tried different broadband carriers, different Wireless cards, and different IPSEC clients with the same result. The IPSEC handshake fails on the IKE [ID] request. Any ideas? My router is a Netgear with NAT translation and all the algorithms and security keys match between remote and local computers.

VPN from USA

I am in the USA and unable to VPN back to my Netgear router in SA via Wifi or internal data card. Roaming no problem. Ipsec client gets no reply on [ID] call from IKE. Are there any known reasons like Telkom/Saix blocking VPN from USA, or special settings required? Any ideas?

OK i know that i am taking a long shot here , have not tested the unrestricted apn in a while ,Is it working now , by this i mean is it finally stable ,any users out their that are using this apn and can connect to the apn using another internet connection without any problems............

How do I create a VPN server & web server behind the Vodacom 3G HSDPA network?

Hi vodacom3g,

Thank the gods I found you!

Just subscribed to 3G with Vodacom. I'm using Act! 2007 CRM package that need to sync databases via VPN. My PC will be the VPN Server behind the 3G HSDPA modem. How do I go about setting up 3G and my PC to accept VPN connections from the internet.

I also do some web hosting and need customers to view beta versions of their sites before I make them live on the real domain. I thought I would be able to get a dynamic DNS service to point to my PC like I did before when I was on ADSL. I used to have an account with dyndns.com pointing a domain to my PC's Apache server.

Can you give me guideline to how to go about doing this. Is it as simple as going onto the alternative APN on the Vodacom network, and then continuing as I used to on ADSL or is there more to it?

VPN newbie.

Pretty much. You'll need the unrestricted apn to open up the incoming ports. Everything else should be the same. PM me your 3G number and I'll get it sorted.

Is the fax number on the form not wrong - is the number not supposed to be 0214408041 (Pier Place) not 0214008041?

I can't host

I'm trying to a host a game of s3d using my vodacom HUAWEI E220 HSDPA USB Modem. I have got the unrestricted APN turned on by Vodacom, and can access the net using it, but nobody can access my game. Is it possible to host games using this type of connection? Some people have said something about port forwarding but i'm not sure if i can do that with my setup. Anybody got any suggestions?

Thanks

Matt

Do you use TCP/UDP ? Port number ? Stay clear of standard port numbers such as TCP80 / TCP 8080.

Of course, make sure your firewall is not denying the incoming connection.

Yup, or any other well known port number. These numbers are published so don't just pull a number out of thin air and expect it to work. Pick high numbers (I normally work in the 40000+ range for private stuff).

If the game is on the system with the 3G card, you won't need to do port forwarding. If on another system you'll have to set up forwarding or routing, probably the first.

Can't host

The game makers recommend using port 7176. Is there any reason why that shouldn't work? I've tried using 40001 but that didn't seem to help.

is there a formal process for this now?

I need to configure my HSDPA for use as a BACKUP "line"....

VPN fron Outside Vodacom network

Hi there. Could someone please advice me on how and if possible to do the following. I use a Linksys 3G router to share my internet at home. I have set it up to update the ip it gets to dyndns. With works well. If a create a vpn from outside to log onto my pc at home, it does not authenticate me on my pc. Any ideas on how i can set this up ?

I've got Unrestricted APN activated on my account. It worked fine until this morning. I cannot ping any international websites like Facebook.com or dyndns.org which is suppose to update my IP. I cannot even access these sites via the browser. Phone Vodacom but they said everything is fine on their side. I've turned off Windows Firewall and have uninstalled my ZoneAlarm Firewall but still no luck. I've tested the USB modem on my desktop PC as well...ans still no luck.

You clever guys have any idea what it could be??

Thanks
