I AM THE GUY IN THE CLASS THAT ASKS THE QUESTIONS BECAUSE NOBODY ELSE WANTS TO ASK THE QUESTIONS.

I am so thankfull that VC is protecting me against the outside world. What about when I go O-O-B then nobody cares about me or my friends or or or.

IT DOES IT DOES, YOU SAID SO, IT GIVES ME UNRESTRICTED INTERNET ACCESS

What is a man to do if you answer a question and it just gets asked again....(and again, and again)...

Ja PA.

I was kindly asked by ic to start a new thread related to this topic. So I kindly did so and repeated all the questions. "Ek hakkel nie maar ek verstaan nie altyd so mooi nie. Maar as ek dit eers het dan het ek dit vir altyd. Elke os kom in die kraal. Hulle wat eerste is sal laaste wees en laaste sal eerste wees. Hee Hee ek gaan dit ook maak":p:p

Still trying to understand how you got onto the unrestricted apn in the first place?

What did you put on the form you faxed to 155?

Remote access PC connected on 3G

Hi, I was wondering if anyone got a way to be able to remote to a PC that is connected on Vodacom's 3G service. The IP I'm getting for that PC starts with 10.*.*.*. I can't ping that IP and I know the Firewall is off. So that must be an IP Range assigned to users inside Vodacom's network but not a WAN IP.

Please help.

10.*.*.* = Internet APN
41.*.*.* = Unrestricted APN

My setup:
DataSIM in Datacard in PC at home, with DynDNS and Unrestricted APN.
+
HSDPA phone connected to any APN and remotely connecting to back to home PC.

Hi Its me again
There seems to be alot of confusion here so i`ll be clear.I use all my cards for telemetry on an industrial base and understand allthere is to understand. My gripe however Why must i wait so long for provisioning to take place the request was issued on Thursday and its still not on however internet is on and have been tested OR the darn thing is off again like a few weeks ago Any comments welcome

@v3g, I suppose it's too late to change the name of the unrestricted APN to something else, but it appears as if some people confuse the meaning of the word "unrestricted" and instead assume that it means "uncapped".

It's a pity that your original idea of referring to it as the "hosting" APN didn't take hold.

Just wondering if there is another way to weed out the people that really do not need to use the unrestricted APN.

I'm thinking of an online questionnaire form that first tests the customer's understanding of what the unrestricted APN is intended to be used for, and only those that successfully run the online gauntlet form will be able to download a pre-filled-in version of the unrestricted APN application disclaimer .pdf form to sign and fax or scan & email.

Filling in the .pdf form fields electronically - based on input from the online form, would put a stop to email copies of the existing .pdf form from being circulated since few people have the software required to edit a .pdf document, also it might be an idea to have a Vodacom letterhead inserted into the application disclaimer .pdf form...

Also the info from an online form could be stored in a database - including contact details of the applicant in case Vodacom needs to communicate with users of the unrestricted APN.

As with any system that evolves over time, a relook at all the APN's are on the cards and we'll relook at the names.

I'm still for people putting their signature on a piece of paper as opposed to an on-line system which today carries no sense of responsibility.

If we're seeing people lying on a piece of paper to access to this "thing they also want but don't understand why they want it", just think how many on-line versions will be submitted.....

Maybe an telephonic interview?

Misunderstanding, I'm suggesting that before one gets to sign the piece of paper, one would have to successfully complete [pass] an online test, and only then gain access to the printable form that one has to sign & return by way of fax or scanned & emailed.IMO the internet APN should be scrapped, and all MSISDNs migrated from the internet APN to the internetvpn APN, then rename the internetvpn APN to the internet APN, and create a internetvpn APN alias that effectively resolves to the internet APN.

Maybe the unrestricted APN could be renamed to hosting, and create an unrestricted alias that resolves to the hosting APN?

Let's chat over a beer tomorrow.

All invited!!

External IP on Unrestricted APN

I'm using DDNS on an unrestricted APN and noticed that the IP address changed from 10.x.x.x to 41.x.x.x. which looks the same as the Telkom ADSL IP addressing.

Am I being routed onto the Telkom Backbone ?

Cheers
Brad

The 41.x.x.x range of addresses include over 16.7 million addresses. Vodacom and Telkom have different ranges within this block of addresses. This is quite possible since they probably both got their addresses from AfriNIC.

That said, afaik Vodacom uses SAIX (aka Telkom) to provide them with Internet access. So, guess you could say you are routed through the Telkom backbone.

How can I get out of the 10.0.0.0 range? I can't remote access the sites using their WAN IP on Vodacom.

You are going to want to use the "unrestricted" APN in order to get access to a device from the outside world. All the other APN's are firewalled.

Search is your friend... but you can start with http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=32730

You are going to have to fill out paperwork and fax it to Vodacom in order to get the APN activated. Its not a quick process so you should be able to justify a definite need for it.

Are we seeing delays in getting provisioned?

The most important thing is to understand why you need it and the security risks around it.

I faxed another application today @ 11:30 AM and apparently it will be done within 24 hours...

Maybe its done already, haven't received a notification yet.

If you don't get an answer by noon tomorrow, PM me.

/edit/

Wait a bit...you're getting a 41.x.x.x IP which means you're already on the unrestricted apn.

Or is this a second number?
