Do you want/need an APN that allows connections initiated from outside the APN?

I see I can now send mail.

Can you guys test?

Whatever you guys did it has now solved the problem...all ports seem to now be working in both directions, including 443 out. Great stuff, thanks! :)

worked yesterday i see that today it down again

Been testing it today and no go cannot get through on port 80 ,and you were right it was working yesterday wonder what gremlins keep getting in the system lol

Were you guys not affected by the SAIX problems?

Can I ask you to help me compile more detailed info on what problems you see and PM it to me or post here.

- What failure you see. i.e. which port in which direction.
- Time of failure.
- Where you are.
- etc.

Also, have you ever been able to send SMTP mail on the unrestricted apn? It's now fixed but I'm trying to ascertain when it broke.

Thanks!

Still unable to connect to unrestricted apn did allow me to log on about a week ago but now no go just keeps coming up with a blank page, forwarding port 80 in order to connect. The past two weeks been having problems with my connections but that must have been SAIX ,thought all would come back to normal but no go , i am situated near jhb cbd and at moment busy testing connection in the north west province as i am up here for the weekend but still same result  Have no idea what has changed in the unrestricted apn side from vodacom When all systems were working 100%.

Ok and i thought that it was just me :) i been having similar problems carlito777 using port 80 too and cant get nothing to go out , allthough you near jhb i am based in edenvale ,so i dont think i can be a tower problem. allthough sometimes it decides to connect allowing me to put in my administrative details but then will not let me go any further???

Had time to test the apn today but does not allow no incoming connections , not with iburst ,telkoms famous adsl , or with mtn data card , keeps telling me that my page dont exist , i am using ports 80,81 just to test with as these are the easiest ports to test with.

Please let me know when it up again ,i cannot ping anything on the unrestricted apn.

It is still working 100% here in PE. I tested port 80 from Telkom ADSL line without problems. Also all outgoing ports, incl. SMTP are working.

Thanks for info 3gmac ,is their anybody else in the joburg region that has the unrestricted apn working ? maybe its this side of the world that the service is down?

The feedback I'm getting is that in-house testing shows it all to be working, so the engineers would like to chat directly to you if you have a problem.

Hopefully, they can then figure it out once and for all.

So if you battling with the unrestricted apn, please PM me all you contact details, e-mail, area and everything else. I'll then mail it directly to the engineering guys who will contact you.

I am on unrestricted APN again after a short switch over to internetvpn when the unrestricted gave me problems. So far so good !!!!

Have sent you a PM v3g look forward to hearing from you or your engineers, Is anybody else having problems with this apn???

HAving choices :)

Reading the first few postings my views are:

1) The default is to have an APN that is the "industry standard" of dishing out a RFC1918 private IPv4 IP that should stay private in the APN/3G network

2) For those users that know what they are doing (and after the bill payer signed a disclaimer to that regard accepting the risks) access is granted to an "open" APN with public routable IPv4 ips ala ADSL/iBurst

3) I also feel the same for a disclaimer for those that want unlimited outgoing
(read SMTP etc.) access.
