Weight Loss Thread 2014

60% water is about the average for a normal person, it can range between 50 and 75%

Day 3, havent made the carb free bread yet, so still getting 50g carbs in, sigh (guess its still better than what I used to have which was in excess of 250g daily). Havent lost a single gram yet either :/ Come hell or high water will cut out the bread tomorrow, that alone will drop me to less than 20g carbs for the day. But I thought with exercise 50g wouldnt impact me as much as the carbs would convert to glycogen for use in the muscles? Or perhaps it'll take longer for things to kick in? I really hope to see some difference by the end of the week (centimetres or weight)...

edit: and now there is cake in the office, must avoid!

Man saying no to office cake or other treats is/are hard! Keep on keeping on!

I made the mistake of having a few baby potatoes with supper, and it turned into instant carb craving, and I caved and had toast before bed.

That's strange, the first week I tried keto, my carbs averaged about 120 and I lost 1.8kg.
The second week I did better and got my carb average to about 80 (week ended better) and lost 2.6kg.
If your carbs are that low, then I wonder what is stopping the kilos from dropping?
Are you making sure that your protein intake isn't too high, otherwise that will just be converted to glucose.

I had some baked sweet potatoes last night, and that pushed my carbs over 80 :(
Hopefully my keto test strips will arrive today.

According to the app I'm using my daily amounts were:
Fat, carb, protein, total calories
1) 120, 45, 113, 1745
2) 111, 47, 92, 1585
3) 77, 48, 77, 1953 (projected)
Thats roughly a 40/20/40 split each day

Ag, its still early days but if the above looks out let me know so that I can adjust. And I am exercising every work day (strength 3 times, light cardio twice) so as far as I am concerned I need a fair amount of energy

How accurate are the strips?

The strips are accurate but they measure the amount of ketones your body is not using and is excreting through your urine. I have read that as you body gets more "keto adapted" you "waste" less so you don't pick up so many in your urine. The other option is blood testing with glucometer that does ketone testing, but the test strips for ketone testing are insanely expensive.

The urine test strips are a nice tool to use in the beginning to see how long it takes for your body to burn out its glycogen stores and start burning fat.

Maybe complete the keto calculator that I posted a couple pages back.

85 - 121g
I consider myself to be fairly active, and the strength training puts a lot of stress on my muscles, so I dont see an issue with my protein intake.

But like I said, its early days for me. Think I'll just keep quiet until Monday and report amazing fat loss :D (positive thinking ftw)

I discovered a brilliant new 'crash diet' yesterday. It's called 'Diarrhoea'. Once you get into the zone, you can really feel it working. After about 5 'bowel movements', you can literally eat anything you like without fear of gaining weight. I myself lost a kilo overnight.

Some advice for newbs -
1. Don't fart, it's not air in your rectum. You only make this mistake once.
2. Use an out of the way toilet. If that hot girl in the office sees you leaving as she's heading in, no amount of carefully started rumours about your 9-inch C0ck will get her to forget the stench you've left behind.
3. How do you know it's working? When your a-ring starts burning from the stomach acid that no longer gets absorbed by your bowel because it's in a giddy rush to get to your colon!

And for you nay-sayers who claim it's only water-loss - you clench your anal sphincter shut for an hour during a business meeting and THEN tell me that's not physical exercise!

:D sorry but that is funny

The packaging insert say 75% for glucose test, and 85% accurate for Ketone test.

The Glucose test test was "neg.", so zero glucose in my urine, which is a good thing. So I definitely don't have diabetes and also don't have ketoacidosis - not that I was really worried, but still a worth knowing.

The Ketones test was positive for ketones in my urine, which means the diet is working. If I work to the color chart, it was probably around 40mg/dL - which is "Slightly increased". I was hoping for a higher result, but I am not sure what effect my high'ish carb intact yesterday played, plus the fact that the test should be done first thing in the morning.

I paid R150 for 50 strips from here - http://www.healthcart.co.za/keto-diabur-test-5000-gluco-ketones-647705-50.html
They were R158.90, but you can get a R50 discount voucher for first time, catch is I had to add something to make it R200 for free delivery. Good service.

How accurate are the strips?

Attached some stats to show progress from 13 Jan to 4 Feb. Note I have started with lchf on the 2nd of January at a weight of 111.9kg. Unfortunately I didnt take a measurement when I started. These stats are from the device at Virgin active using the BIA (bioelectrical impedance analysis) method.bodystats.jpg

Rofl :D
I don't know whether to offer sympathy or congratulations :p

Made the bread out of the Real Meal Revolution, and it is goooooood :D Just had one slice last night (plain) and it tastes way way better than what I expected (and it can be toasted). The loaf feels pretty heavy compared the normal bread, so it should be quite filling, will see how it goes today. And with that, I'll be on track for around 20g carbs today :D

I did too and it was vile!!!!!!!!!!! So disappointed!!! Added feta and calamata olives to mine....
