Weight Loss Thread 2014

Which Atkins, the original or the new one?

Original one; I have cut out 99% of carbs. No alcohol no fizzy drinks.

Starting to feel better but my stomach is having a hard time adjusting to the new eating plan. I am lucky that Iam aable to lose weight at a hell of a speed.

Just monitor your protein intake, as I recall the original focused more on proteins than fat?

Correct.

I am having high protein, medium amount of fats, and ensuring I don't consume more than 1900 cal a day.

What do you guys drink except for water?

I have managed to cut out all soft drinks for the past two weeks and I rarely drink coffee anyway.

But sometimes I just don't feel like having a glass of water. What is acceptable in your diet and what works for you?

Water; plain or sparkling, sugar free sparking from woolies, rooibos tea and coffee

This is where I change it a bit. If I don't have my 3 teaspoons a day with 1 cup of coffee and milk. I would collapse.

On seldom occasion I make myself diet soda stream. Mainly lots and lots of water

Personally I just don't like the taste of coffee. That is why I rarely have a cup. I would guestimate at having 3 cups a month at most.

There was a time long ago when I had 2 or 3 cups a day but that is when I loaded it with 4 to 5 spoons of sugar. So I was basically doing it to get my fix on sugar.

I would rather go the other way around, medium protein high fat, high protein can still give an insulin response

Guess I'll have to get out the Rooibos tea then.

Obviously with no sugar or milk added?

Full cream milk if you doing LCHF!!!! Stevia or Xylitol to sweeten although both taste average! I do one spoon sugar, one spoon Xylitol but only have one large mug of coffee first thing in the am, for the day. Water for the rest of the day (3 litres a day if possible).

I won't lie. I am a bit confused.

The Paleo diet states that you should limit dairy products. Tim Noakes' LCHF diet recommends you eat and drink full fat dairy products.

What do you guys recommend? I do love my cheese and creamy sauces. So I am hoping it is the latter.

From the Real Meal Revolution...

Cheese- Firm, natural, full-fat, aged cheeses (not processed)
Full cream Greek yoghurt
Full cream milk
Cream
Cottage cheese
Cream cheese
Soft cheeses
Hard cheeses

depends whether you want to be purist paleo or not, in my view some people handle dairy better than others, so if you're not lactose intolerant then have dairy. My personal preference is no milk but just cream (lactose is another form of sugar), cheese is not a problem as the fermentation process uses up the milk sugar (so long as it's not processed cheese)

Thanks guys. Quite a learning process for me but I'm getting there.

Certainly not trying to be 100% Paleo. But certainly trying to do it at 80-90%. I know I will slip up sometimes.

I have teas of the herbal variety and I drink it with no milk or sugar. Or I add a bit of flavor to my water by adding mint or lemon.

I am going to join you guys. Not official for the competition though, but it will help me get on track. I'm a bit well rounded :p so need to make a plan. Height is 157cm and weight is 73kg which is way bad for me. I'll be happy if I can get down to 60kg again. So I just check in my stats on a monthly basis?
