Weight Loss Thread 2014

Ok, wait. So this really works? You guys are losing weight by increasing fat intake? Really??

Not only did I lose fat, my health issues (headaches, IBS, swollen ankles etc) are like a million times better :D
Oh and insane choccie cravings are a thing of the past too.

But valentines weekend was not good to me :o

Okay had my weigh in this morning using the tracker (still a 1kg variation between the one in the locker and the tracker but who cares)

Fell off the wagon a bit this weekend, had lots of snacks with the rugby and yesterday had a bun and ice cream which I really feel bad about.

Hmm, wow! I will read up on this a bit now!

Let's see if I can help you the short and simple version.

When you eat carbohydrates insulin is secreted to breakdown the carbs, the carbs are broken down into glucose and extra glucose not used by the body for energy is stored as fat. In order for the body to release the fat that is stored back into the body as energy we need lipase, however, lipase secretion is suppressed by insulin and so the fat cannot be released and we continue to build up our fat stores so long as we keep eating carbs and secreting insulin.

In short to lose weight we take carbs out of the equation to stop the secretion of insulin and allow our bodies to start using fat as an energy source (this is a very simplistic version).

Been reading this thread for the past two weeks, and it has been good inspiration, thought I'd share my results as well. I'm 1.73m, 33 years and I've been overweight since primary school.

Three years ago I was tipping the scale @ 115kg, but I've been able to get it down to 101KG last year, where it's been hovering around for a year. I've also discovered the Banting/Noakes eating plan and have been Banting this last three weeks and as of this morning I'm 94.3KG and feeling good. I've set myself a goal weight of 80KG

Hit a new low today, 74.8. :)

Am currently eating scrambled eggs with several tablespoons of butter involved with fried chicken skin mixed in. I also have a cup of coffee next to me that contains about 2 tablespoons of coconut oil.

This time last year I weighed close to 90. Just over a month ago when I started the diet I weighed 83 or so. It does appear to work.

Congrats to the loosers here.

Another cm off the waist and 2cms off the hips. I think in about 3 weeks if this cm loss keeps up I'll be off to buy new pants. :D

Question on the prices for Almond and Coconut flour. I found Crede Coconut flour @ R70 for 600g and Nature Choice Almond Flour @ R125 for 300g.

Is this what these ingredients are going for or are there other retailers? BTW I live in the Sandton area so I looked at the healthshop at Sandton City and at Dischem so far only.
