Usually 10-15% rounded up to the nearest R50 after that figure usually.

And for those places that automatically include the gratuity on the bill, then 0%, but they also need to have been incredibly explicit about the practice (stated on the menu quite boldly, and even a sign at the entrance kind of explicit) otherwise I throw my toys and then give the waiter the tip in cash if its deserved.

Typically 20-50% (‘Murica). I go lower in the range for expensive meals and higher for cheaper ones. For really bad service, I have no problem giving zero, or significantly more for exceptionally good service.
Thank you for your kind gesture. Rich guys like you is one of the reasons why peasants like us have hard time in Murica when in restaurants.

In Bangkok I usually tip 200% or thereabouts the cost of the meal because why not.
Meal price = R32 tip, R70

And what else? Food and shelter? Is that the new trend ?

Age plays a big role as well, go out with old people paying and you can see the poor waiter or waitress' face fall when gramps pulls out an entire R20 on a R1000+ bill.
