MTN SuperSonic Feedback

HEs transport to London is via Openserve from what we've seen, so they have single path from JHB to Ysterfontein on the terrestrial side for WACS, and then another path to Eassy. They then also connect to all their pops on the East side of the continent so it's not an express route.

The problem there is that breaks on the Terrestrial side happen often which then routes via a congested high latency path over Eassy.

We had some layer2 transport with them to London which we saw this happening all the time.

They are used to providing services in Countries that don't have the challenges we do.

As a transit provider they are mostly great, just not locally as yet.

Doesnt this indicate that you can't just purely lay the blame at HE ?
Maybe other factors at play that affects both. Lots that can go wrong with 11k kms of cabling
each isp uses a different upstream provider and this is what we are comparing.

thank you for your honest answer, at least im not imagining it.

im after a low ping and no loss, all the others have high ping and no loss (except lucky packet HE), time will tell with afrihost/axxess/webafrica with echo.

Let us know who you end up using. Cousin trying for teaching roles.
working fine on macrolan albeit with a 430ms ping, even tho the app gives red scores all over the place. if its less than 400 then the red goes away as with previous isps, but with HE, its a rocky ride.

Well it's only relative to local HE customers, this is why we have our own transport to London then get transit from there.

Supersonic is really doing me bad.

So I have in writing no clawback for me but they are refusing saying the terms has changed and I'm liable.

They have changed the terms. Now if you cancel within 24 months you pay the FULL installation fee and activation fee and no more pro rata. When I signed up they told me when cancelling you only pay back pro rata amount and that worked for me because I basically get a discounted installation fee but no they changed the terms without informing me and now want to hold me to the new terms. They can not supply me with what I'm paying and say to me that 80ms to 150ms on IPC hop on a trace route is acceptable.

Also they are refusing to allow me to return their useless "free" router and is instead charging me R999 for the router because I requested cancellation. When I told them but the terms say I can return it they just reply with yes if it is unused but that does not make sense because the Supersonic technician comes to your house and opens and installs it so it will always be used once. They did not have an answer.

They are charging me R2850 cancellation fee + R999 hardware fee + R1750 for the 200Mbps in advance. Total payable before 25 July 2019 for me to get my fibre line released will be R5600. So I told them to downgrade to 10Mbps then I will save some money at least but they refused saying the terms have changed and upgrades and downgrades need 30 days notice now.... WTF...

This company wow how they have made a 180 degree turn.....

Looks like I will be without internet for a month or 2 because there is no way in hell I'm just going to EFT them over R5k. I paid them for the coming month until 25th for the service and will pay the cancellation fee next month.

We all knew they would change the T&C once they've secured their customers. It's really sad to see this. I remember reading the T&C's when they started the promo and it said that the T&C's can change at anytime without prior notice to the customer. They didn't waste anytime implementing this.

Not just unfair but unethical. I'm just shocked they are holding me ransom but can't provide me with 200Mbps. If they give me what I pay for then I do not need to cancel and move but when the manager says to you I'm sorry we disappointed you but there is nothing I can do because the network guys say there is nothing wrong.... Now when I move I get bill shocked.

So the slow speed and increased latency was first reported on 02/06/2019. It is now 04/07/2019 and the slow speeds and increased latency is getting worse. I had to pay FULL price of R1749 for June and billed full price for July again but these are the speeds I'm getting. Also getting knocked with a big cancellation fee. Really not fair from them. If you are on Openserve I would not recommend Supersonic at all! This is a 200/100Mbps line and Supersonic say there is nothing wrong?

Want an account to use in the meantime, use our test account for the rest of the month. No commitment required.

Thank you for the generous offer but I do have a second account I'm currently using. :giggle:

@cavedog being on Openserve with the issue of IPC would TelkomISP not be the best option? One would assume they would not have congestion issues

you would think but i hear they go through the same kuk, as they're treated the same as other isps by openserve, telkom and openserve are two different entities.

It's worse on Telkom because they have to pay for IPC just like the rest hence the FUP on Telkom ISP.

The IPC issues are real for ISPs on Openserve but that is why I went with Supersonic because they have lots of $$$ because it's the MTN Business network so they supply business fibre over Openserve on the MTN Business side but for them to fix it they first need to acknowledge the issue which seems to be the hard part.

I've sent them all the info required but seems they are in denial about the IPC issues so I'm looking to save some money and just move to another cheaper ISP so when IPC congestion happens I have my backup adsl account with Vox as a backup. It's 400GB for R179 which is very affordable so that is nice to keep as a backup. Paying R1749 for Supersonic where peak speeds go down to 16Mbps is disappointing and even a capped account might even be better for me.

When the IPC is not an issue with Supersonic their network is really enjoyable and very few can beat them. They don't have transit issues their only issue on Openserve is IPC.

think its more to do with the bean-counters at mtn saying no, you can't upgrade ipc now.
