SEACOM downtime continues

Can you setup an account online or do you have to go via call center?
 
I tried purchasing a 1 gig top up from WebAfrica and it would not go through. Dunno why. Just sits there with the little no go sign.

will we all be refunded as i have been having to use my saix accounts in the mean time, will i be
refunded for R36.00 per day (R1069 for a month or 30days) that im offline, as i cannot pay for something thats not been supplied to me!!!!

Maybe i should offer my services as a "Best effort service" at work.
Might get away with doing less then.
 
At work we use Vox (Fishbone 4x4MB line) SAIX IIRC, since we get a 41.x ip.
At home using W/A, Afrihost, Axxess. 196. IS addresses.
All Dead - plenty of our customers that do realtime medical aid claims are being affected as they cannot process these claims, they call in and we just say 'sorry' its telkoms fault - as many are still unaware of the SEACOM cable.
I don't understand how a cable int the sea cant affect local borders connectivity ?:confused: unless we doing a loop into the sea and then back into land ?:wtf:

With regards to the redundancy question, and as to why there is so little redundancy and why speeds are impacted so much, here are the facts.

Bandwidth on SAT-3 is *VASTLY* more expensive than on SEACOM, and yeah, its feasible to put in backup capacity, at a cost. The market wants lower prices, but something has to be sacrificed to bring the prices down, and because of the insane price on SAT-3 its simply not economically viable to stay fully redundant.

All of us that have SEACOM capacity are suffering right now, TENET for example has dropped onto emergency redundant capacity, but at a fraction of the bandwidth we normally have available, its simply not economically sensible to do more than this. True redundancy will only really arrive when WACS on the west coast arrives (though it will be helped by other changes being made in the next few months from what I hear)

I'm in contact with SEACOM Noc constantly at the moment and I do know they are working with the SMW4 team as much as possible to get this done as fast as possible, but these things happen, not much anyone can do about it without spending sick amounts of money that would drive up the costs to all of you

is this affecting mweb uncapped account cause my torrent is sitting at 0.2kb/s for pretty much the whole day while it was working at a steady 40kb/s last night

no some do , just not via seacom......

I can surf international on sainet , believe it or not. LOL bought some a while ago to try & found it slow, so took it out....... today my other ISP not working international & they seem to work :o Dont ask me how....... I dont know & dont attack me , coz i bought their net.
 
webafrica ftw quality of quantity always. my uncapped speeds have been **** using my uncapped for downloading and my webafrica 10 gig for gaming good compromise

I bought the pre-paid shaped and signed up with my credit card. I thought the activation wasn't happening immediately, but then I logged into their control panel and saw it was active, so changed the log in and it works.

Just realised that I will need to change my SMTP server for email (couldn't figure out why I keep on getting errors).

Well,

1) Postpone repairs due to rough weather.
2) Commence repairs when things are calmer.
3) Something small goes wrong during repairs extending estimated repair time for a couple of hours.
4) Weather gets worse during those couple of hours.
5) Sit with half-finished repairs with rough seas making it too risky to continue.

Not saying that is what happened but this scenario is entirely possible. And to those saying that they should have looked at weather reports... nature is a rough and often unpredictable beast. Watch the news much?
 
Mweb flying like a Boeing!!! Must say they stopped news and torrents but I've done well over 200Gb's so satisfied for this month :)
 
I have Mweb and WebAfrica - both seem to work fine for browsing as long as I don't connect to my company VPN (which means international). As soon as I'm on the VPN everything goess dead slow.
