These threads are driving me mad!
Here are the facts:
$199 in the US (With a forced contract, you will not be allowed to leave the store with an iPhone without signing a contract)
Steve Jobs said "The iPhone will be available for $199 in MOST countries" (I repeat MOST, meaning it could be more or less, I am sure Apple will keep it at reasonable prices, they want this to be the ipod of cellular phones) Countries like Germany and France will be selling the iPhones unlocked but at much higher prices.
I'm not sure of the laws in South Africa, but they might also stipulate that you cannot be locked into a service provider (I think this is the case), in that case it would be available through prepaid channels but will NOT, i repeat not, be sold for R1500. So to recap, if you were paying R1500 for the iPhone, that would be after signing on the line for a 24month contract with Vodacom at the mystery monthly price that has not been revealed. Heck, if you have an expensive enough contract they might throw in free trip to the moon with Steve Jobs together with a free iPhone.
Also, I very much doubt that Vodacom would ever release an 'unlimited' browsing plan with the iPhone, it is practically a computer and could hog as much data as your home computer.
Anything other than this is a complete mystery.
I hope this will help to extinguish some of the wild/blatantly wrong guesses that are being made.
