Methinks confusion reigns.....![]()
There's been no changes made to the internetVPN apn, it's definitely not been 'unrestricted' on incoming ports. It should still have blocking of incoming ports in place.
The (still coming) unrestricted apn will allow incoming ports.
What routing issues did you have previously that you believe the internetvpn apn fixed? Or was it rather an authentication issue?
If you previously got a 10.x IP, you MUST have been on the internet apn, the internetVPN apn cannot issue NAT'ed IP's.
pre-g-user,
Did you dial 155 or did u go for the vodacom4me option?
Hi V3G .... indeed confusion ALWAYS reignsI had been switching back and forth between "internetvpn" and "internet" a number of times since the data support guys provisioned me for that. I was having numerous routing issues on both APN's for the last 3 weeks (along with other problems which you know about). Last night I switched back to internetvpn and for the first time I had a 196.* address and previous routing issues were resolved. I just "assumed" that the "internetvpn" apn had become the "unrestricted" apn but clearly I am wrong. Certainly as far as routing and IP address goes something has definitely changed (for me anyway) when I switched back to internetvpn last night. I did not get around to testing open ports etc.
Back to the question: WHEN OH WHEN is Voda going to provide us with the unresticted APN? Many of us here are big enough to take care of our own security needs.![]()
It's already available, according to the Vodacom website. Go to http://www.vodacom4me.co.za, register your MSISDN and get a password.
Then log in, go to
"My Account" -> "Services" -> "Modify Services"
Click on "Activate Unrestricted APN".
--deckert
Do you have the NoScript Firefox extension installed?
Do we put the word unrestricted into the profile settings under apn???
..... okay ... so how do we use it now?? Do we put the word unrestricted into the profile settings under apn??? Any help much appreciated.
Don't even mention the unrestricted APN!Driving me dilly, hopefully will have an answer today.
We have various products with built in web servers. These products connect to a controller or controller network via RS485. They are used in any application where remote monitoring and control is required. (Refrigeration, air conditioning, security, remote meter reading etc.) We can currently connect to the controller web servers in controllers that are connected to the Internet and have static IP addresses. (By typing the IP address of the controller in a standard web browser running on any Internet connected PC)We would be able to greatly expand the marketability of our products if we could take advantage of the existing GPRS network. (Low data costs, always on connection, low subscription rates etc.) We would need a static IP. Is this possible. Thanks
