Weight Loss Thread 2014

I was suffering last night. We had chicken stir fry for dinner, and a little while after dinner I had a terrible bloated feeling, like I had just downed 2 litres of water or something. Yesterday was actually quite a well balanced day as far as food went.

This morning I went for a 5km run, and while my time wasn't terrible, it wasn't great. I finished in just over 33 min, but the worst part was that I walked a fair amount, but also had zero energy. I am feeling very tired and lethargic today. I am not so sure that I have upped my fat intake enough after starting to drop my carbs.

Thiis is my break-down for the last 3 days:

To the guys that are doing a LCHF diet, what is your approx breakdown of fats / carbs / protein?
I have a feeling I sould be upping my fat.

Hurting, how?

Hurting your wallet? :p

Yeah, sent the SO to buy some almond flour, R120 for 300g!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I'm hurting due to the quality of red meat I'm consuming IE not the best quality!! And perhaps the amount too!!

Also the only "sugar/sweetner" I'm consciously ingesting is 2 heaped spoons of Xylitol in my coffee every morning. Without fail about 2 hours later I have chronic, but I mean CHRONIC diarrhea!!! That s hit does not agree with me at all!! Todays the last day I use it!!

Look, I'm not on any specific diet and I'm not scrutinizing and analyzing like a lot of you guys are! I'm really just trying to keep things as simple as possible for my own sanity sake!!

What I hate about eating plans and dieting is when it becomes so regimented, scientific and calculated!! I refuse to calorie count, I refuse to weigh myself every other day, I refuse to acknowledge BMI is anything other than a farce and I refuse to take weekly blood tests to monitor vitals. This all probably explains why I've been over weight for most of my adult life (consistently around 10kg-30kg depending on where I've been with my bodybuilding).

What I am attempting to do it cut out the carbs, cut out the grains and cut out the sugars.

I been back in training for the last 3 weeks, light cardio, light weights. Let's see what is attainable.

Currently 174cm, 108kg with a BMI I wouldn't even want to reference!!

EDIT: SO is collecting a copy of Tim Noakes, The Real Meal Revolution, later on today. I'm hoping for some vital tips/answers ...

Cut out the xylitol. Either look into an alternative like Stevia or cut out trying to sweeten your coffee entirely. It takes a little while, but after you get used to it, even one sugar in your coffee will taste too sweet. Adding cream helps too.

Yeah, heard of Stevia, will give it a bash!!

hmmm, need to try this out

Might be better than cauliflower pizza, which makes your kitchen smell like you're processing off eggs...

Heart surgeon declares on what really causes heart illness

Seems it's from march 2012, but a good read anyway for those unfamiliar with the topic.

Yay, it's about time doctors stopped killing people for the sake of their own egos...

Make sure you're actually getting xylitol. Some of these xylitol products are xylitol AND another product. Check the carb count on the packaging to be sure.

Xylitol can have the effect you're describing though. As Randhir says, try Stevia if you can find the proper stuff...

So far all going according to plan. CM are dropping, weight on the scale not so much, but don't mind that as long as physical changes are on track.

Meal plan is dialed in tight - sticking to it like white on rice.

Looking forward to progress pics and final before and after on 1 April!

What did you have with the stir fry?

I support your overall approach. Perhaps you're taking in too much protein though if you're reading a lot of red meat. I had way too much protein yesterday and I felt like crap this morning. The general guideline should be a portion of meat about the size and thickness of the palm of your hand. Meat should also be grass fed , not grain fed. Also variety between beef, lamb, pork and chicken. I prefer lamb and pork because they tend to be fattier than beef.

Well, I did some physical work in the heat earlier, and I came close to collapsing.

Am upping my fat intake, and will check my iron levels, etc in a week or so if this doesn't pass by then.

It's a bit odd to feel so weak, but since I'm getting thinner by the day...

You might well be carb tolerant in which case maybe up your carb intake a little bit. In your case it sounds like for a period of time you may need to do some measuring work on food group intakes until you find an optimal ratio

I'm going to investigate further. I'm still in the beginning phases of figuring this all out.

It could be that I am simply not eating enough. I just don't have an appetite after I eat in the morning, until the next day. I am forcing myself to eat at least twice, but compared to what I used to gobble, I'm consuming virtually nothing.

Sounds like you have a very unique digestive system. I would suggest that you add some more carbs to stimulate the appetite, sounds like you're hunger response mechanism might be a bit borked
