BBM for Android, iPhone arrives

Go to Settings - Apps - BBM - Clear Data and Force Stop, then reopen.
 
Updated my iOs to 7.0.3 and updated my BBM to 1.02.114 and it's running much better.
 
How do you get rid of the status update notifications on android. Every time one of my teenage or yuppie contacts changes their profile, it notifies like a message has come in

Don't know about android but on iOS it's : go to settings - edit blocked contacts and you'll see a tab for "updates". You can block updates there. Might be the same for android.

Or on the updates itself, press the trash button with the no entry sign, it should block further updates from that person.

So it works on my iPad with 3G/wifi even though it won't let me install… good to know.

It just need a SIM card for you to recieve the authentication SMS, after that you don't need it. It will run without over wifi, but yeah, if you have no SIM card slot, you can't get whatsapp working. You used to be able to use a SIM card inserted in another device, and get an authentication code to put in the non-SIM device, but I dunno if that process is still available.

One of my pet peeves. Those update thingies. Wtf do I need to know everyone someone takes a dump I have nfi.

It sounds like you can use multiple devices, but only one at a time.

You can switch device devices with WhatsApp, but you're only supposed to do it if you are no longer going to use the old device. Do it too often and WhatsApp block your account for a few days.

So they still haven't fixed the issue of it crashing when you try set a profile picture on ICS...
 
In general, I posted my experience for BBM here. For me it is not worth it, but I might be missing something

Small correction - it also works on tablets with no 3G. I installed it on my Nexus 7 (wi-fi only) and used it. The draw-back of this is that you can not have WhapsApp active on both your phone and tablet linked to the same sim card. I e-mailed the people at WhapsApp and they might re-introduce the feature in the future where you can link more than one device to the same sim card, but no promises.

Can you not copy the install file from your handset to the iPad and install it?

You don't need a sim slot to get WhatsApp to work on a wi-fi only device. Done this less than two weeks ago on the Nexus 7 (wi-fi only)

No and fortunately it's not something I need worry about any longer. Whatsapp may not support tablets, but BBM does. ;)

True. When speaking to them, they did confirm that they don't support tablets, but it does work on the tablets if you can get the app on there. You must be thrilled that BBM works for you on the tablet :eversoslightlysarcastic: :D If WhatsApp really wants to compete, they have to get their support active for tablets.

Yes, you can get the activation code sent by telephone; a computer will call the number you are trying to register and read out the number, or there are even )third party) websites that can generate the activation code now.

What prevents this is their current authentication method; your WhatsApp password is generated by your device (about a year ago it was generated from your WLAN MAC address in iOS devices and from your IMEI in other devices - not sure if this is still the case). On the one hand, this is great as you never have to remember the password (and I believe this has contributed to WhatsApp's popularity), but on the flipside you can never change it if your account has been compromised or if you want to use another device. Also, your username is always <your phone number>@s.whatsapp.net.
