MTN SuperSonic Feedback

I'm done with this company. Complaint lodged at ISPA.

Temba is on leave so my query is not moving. Apparently because I dial multiple pppoe sessions is the reason for my slow speeds. So I dial only 1 session in the router and guess what the IPC hop on a trace route is still showing increased latency and speeds are ~50Mbps duing peak time. I have a 200Mbps line.

Tried to cancel and move on 7 times and still not canceled.

My next step if ISPA fail I will be kicking in doors at their Roodepoort office.
Disappointing man!! Especially considering how sweetly the account was running in the opening weeks!!

Where you moving to? Websquad?

Can't no Openserve on websquad and CISP is R2409 for a 200Mbps. Home-connect is R1808 for a 100Mbps option so not sure where I will be landing but I can't take the way Supersonic is dealing with this. Maybe they never even upgraded the IPC or did an application for IPC upgrade because my issues started before CISP and their IPC has already been upgraded. So I don't think Supersonic is taking this IPC congestion seriously and what does that mean for the future because they always signing people up so it will probably get congested again in the future if they eventually upgrade it this time.

100Mbps there are a lot of cheap and different options but 200Mbps Openserve not a lot and it's expensive.

Damn dude, that kinda sucks!!

Can't believe how expensive CISP is on OS! Disappointing man!! For R2288 you could get 1Gbps on Home-connect/Vumatel...

Maybe you need to stick it out for another month and see... ?

Ahh I don't know. This is what I'm getting now and it struggled to get there. Latency seem fine but it's also jumping up and down. Now just leaving everything as is and tomorrow morning 6am I will do a speedtest again and the speedtest to the same server instantly goes to 196Mbps and stays there. Clearly still IPC congestion which hasn't been upgraded yet.

So today was interesting.

Got a call from Supersonic and it was someone that can actually make things happen. Explaining how sorry he is that things went so badly that I needed to lodge a complaint with ISPA. He once again said that he is disappointed that the network guys took so long to actually apply for a IPC rate limit increase because now the feedback he has from Openserve is an upgrade date a week from now so by next weekend it should be sorted. He is sorry it came to this and agreed that if if I'm not happy by the end of March he will waive all fee and release my line to the holding pool but he hopes it does not get to that and said I don't have to pay for Feb and only paying for 40Mbps for March as an apology for the poor service I received and for the poor speeds I'm seeing.

Sad it took a complaint to ISPA to get to speak to someone that can actually do something but hopefully and I say hopefully because I've been lied to by Supersonic people before that the issue is getting fixed by next weekend and it's just not another BS to keep me quiet. Let's see what happens.

If they don't and don't release the line I just pull all this stuff out and initiate a new install let them come and swap out the ONT and replice fibre at the pole.

I dont see any other ISP willing to go the extra mile as supersonic. I have 3 lines with them, had one issue, but was quickly resolved and also got credit towards that. We "as the end user" must remember that all ISP's when starting will eventually get some issues, look at Cool Ideas for example with the vuma lines (was with them also, horrid experience from day one).

I do hope they will keep their services as good as they say they are, but for my experience with them I give them a thumbs up.

Yes I know they do really go the extra mile but the first line support seem to lie too much. I get that the network gets issues and I can't really blame 1st line support because they aren't the ones responsible for managing the network but as a tech savvy guy hearing stupid thing or lies is not on. Hopefully the man in charge that called me can sort thing out.

From my experience I am sure if you got a call from someone in management they getting it sorted. Also had some issues with the support line, but I have kept my emails and eventually got a direct email address for someone in charge to sort my lines. No more issues! So hope yours get sorted ;)

As others have noted, MTN/Supersonic will bill you for the installation and activation if you decide to cancel within the trial period.

If you cancel thereafter, you are billed for the balance of the installation/activation + the cost of the router and range extender, calculated over the balance of 24-months.

The terms clearly say you need to return the router or you will be billed so just return them and you won't. As for the installation the terms also say it is included in the trial but some have said it's not which is fair because people want free install and everything then just jump over to another ISP without any issue just because they want to be on cool ideas or who ever.

Correct. Regrettably MTN/Supersonic charges a R100-odd premium over what other ISP's do under the banner of quality-of-service; don't fall for that.

Hi, I have a quick question regarding supersonic.

Vumatel will be coming tomorrow to install my fiber line and I have chosen supersonic as my isp.

I currently have the huawei b618 and I know it works with fibre and I don't want to have to wait for supersonic to deliver their router which will probably only arrive next week.

Do I need to phone supersonic after the fibre installation to get pppoe details or must I just enable dhcp? I have heard different answers when googling.

Dependswhat you got :)

Vumatel Trenched = DHCP
Vumatel Aerial = PPPoE user/pass

If it's dhcp you can have them activate it and it will work but you would need them to release the mac address when you plug another router I believe.

Vuma aerial and Openserve they can sms you the pppoe details while you wait for the router to come.

What would be the best and quickest solution here?

For people who have used the free router provided by supersonic: is it better than the huawei b618 or is it a cheap garbage router?

Do I need to phone supersonic to activate the line with them after vumatel has installed the line then enable dhcp or do I just enable it myself and syncs up with my account?

Well Supersonic needs to activate it from their side which is quick usually via whatsapp. The router they supply is actually a very nice router. It's valued at just over R1000 and it's a gigabit router which is nice. Better than the B618? Well it has more LAN ports and has more QoS functions which you can set so I would say as a fibre router it's better.

Thanks for all the great info. I will phone them tomorrow after the line is installed just to make sure it's done right.

So when the free router arrives I will just need to phone them again to release my MAC address for use with the new router correct? Also why is changing routers this much of a hassle on fibre anyway?

Lol got offered a 2 months free now (was a month as per a previous mail) since they failed in activating my line on the 1st of March. Worth giving them a shot? Vumatel. 2 months of free internet
