What is the theoretical limit we can push on these accounts before we get told to calm down? I have a bulk of xbox live games to download, so its gonna over shoot a few hundred gigs:P

Depends on what account you're on. If you're on the Crystal Clear Basic Uncapped account then you'll be shaped pretty hard during the day, so you'd have to do it all between midnight and 6am.

On the other end of the spectrum, if you on a Crystal Web Business Premium Capped account then download when ever you want. You could use your entire cap in one day on that account and they wouldn't care.

I would love to know what my best option will be at the moment I have a premium home uncapped 4 meg account costing R429.00 p/m I never go over 100 gig a month do a lot of streaming (every night) but in SD (would like to do in HD) & download a couple of torrents a week (+- 4 to 5 gig) if I took a capped account it would be a LOT cheaper & on the cheapest one I get 90 gig a month plus extra during 12 - 6 am right? can someone advise if this would be a better option for me thanks

Definitely on that usage pattern.

90gb during the day with a wopping 360GB after hours. So if you can schedule your downloads for that time then you should have no problem. Also you'd have to stream...a LOT...to make up 90gb I think. So that would work very well for you.

Only you can answer how much you'd actually use though. My suggestion? Go on the 90GB then if you see the cap is a little to little you can always just upgrade.

Make them download between 12am - 8am if your on a premium account.

Nah, if you're streaming HD, you can do 90GB without too much effort. 2 hours a day at 400KB/sec.

Well I stream at 720p and do an hour or so a day...I've only barely touched 30 odd gig for the month.

My midnight usage is another story though hehe.

Was a good excersise to actually how much data I actively consume :)

Month aint over yet ;)
Add 25% to that, and then double it .... 75GB :D

Haha. Maybe now that I am on Capped I will feel the need to use all my capped as to "not feel robbed" and just download any kind of rubbish close to month end :p

I'm on 89GB so far on my 10mb uncapped premium. Not getting anywhere near full use of it, but I consider it doing my part to help sustain CW as a viable alternative to the crap that's out there.

Meh, I'm over this way of thinking to try and download as much as possible - I just use my 40mbps line for whatever I want, when I need it. If I want to watch something, i'll stream or download it when I need it because my line is so fast, it is not a problem.

Using around 100 gigs a month on a 40 meg line - When I was on a slower line speed (4mb and 10mb) I used to download torrents 24/7 because streaming wasn't quick enough with previous ISPs. With crystal web, It just works, so there is no need to download all day IMHO.

Yet again streaming is dismal. Can't even hit 720p. Load capped. 720 immediately.

I just wanna say that this is what i have been leaning towards when i got a taste of around 14/16Mbps back in Nov/Dec. Although give me a legal source so i can archive in fullhd and i will be super happy. Who knows what may happen years down the line

This. So much this.

So my intermittent high latency and slow throughput problems in PE have been solved.

My Synology NAS has been the target of a DoS attack through it's DDNS service for the last 2 weeks or so.

The incoming packets have been flooding the router and line at random times, basically rendering everything else useless.

Enabled DDOS protection, removed DDNS and everything is 150% flying.

Thanks Shuan and CW team for all the support and help.

I have a 10mbps line. I'm thinking of moving to CW from AH.

I use between 150GB - 250GB per month on uncapped. This is mostly for torrents and NNTP. I download lots of video based courses from Udemy / Lynda.com / Tutsplus and then of course movies and TV series.

'm thinking of going with a capped product form CW. My primary business is SQL dev work which I do for local and international clients via remote desktop and then i also do some work on Wordpress. I create web based training portals for companies which requires the upload of video training that I create. (Hence the reason I watch a lot of video training :)

Optimal line quality for this is way more important than my ability to download the entire interwebs so I'd like some guidance form the CW community about the reliability of CW's capped service. My estimate above is based don looking at my usage for the past 3 months with AH, but I'm concerned that it might not reflect my real usage. It always seems that when you are on capped, you use far more data.

Any advice is highly appreciated.

I'd say go for the 120gb capped package. It gives you a ton of download data - 480gb - to use between midnight and 06:00 and leaves you with a big chunk for streaming and actual work.

The line quality is fantastic. Lowest international pings I've ever seen. If you feel that the 120gb is too little you can always convert to an uncapped package.

Do keep in mind that on uncapped large downloads during the day will be shaped. Therefor they give you that big chunk for downloading at night.

Whichever package you go for, you won't be sorry on their network. I've said it before and I'll say it again, all the crap I had with Afrihost packetloss and instability in the South went bye bye when I switched.

I'm also in Durbanville btw :)

Awesome stuff. Although we had such a load of hassles here in Sonstraal Heights but it seems to be a lot more stable lately since the Verdi street upgrade.

I'm cancelling with AH as we speak!
