I did own the latest flagship for a few months though, seeing as my order was an early bird order. And considering nothing has happened to my phone and it cost me R7.4k I'd say it was a pretty sweet deal.

For people in SA, importing the OP5 is lower risk than the OP5T. Burn-in on OLED's is a thing, and almost always caused by the on-screen navigation buttons. So not an issue for the OP5, and I also like 16:9 more than 18:9 as videos and apps aren't letterboxed.

That said, nothing excuses OnePlus not disclosing the OP5T to consumers who very recently purchased the OP5. Many people on the official forum bought their OP5 less than a month ago. And it really sucks for anyone who took FNB up on their OnePlus deal, as they just received an outdated device and wouldn't have had to worry about burn-in with a local warranty.

50/50 about it. My Nexus 5 was dying so I had to get a replacement. The OP5 had just launched and was the best phone available at the time. It addressed the N5's biggest weaknesses (camera, battery life, lack of fingerprint sensor) very well.

I knew there would be a 5T, but didn't expect such a major hardware update. A few updates on the camera and other features whilst retaining the same design and price would have been the more sensible route (to retain longer term customer loyalty). I thought they'd leave the screen redesign for the OP6. The new pricing coupled with the deteriorating Rand is starting to hurt value proposition.

I keep my phones for at least 3 years and have no doubt that the OP5 will still be quite decent then, but the OP5T will age that much better due to the new screen.

Is it really an upgrade? It seems to be more like a S8 and S8+ type situation.

The internals are pretty much the same, the Camera did see a slight change, but otherwise mostly the same device with a larger display. It doesn't really seem to do anything the OP5 can't do.

I think it's more a S8+ and Note 8 kinda situation, sans S Pen.

So are you saying: Don't get any phone that has a OLED display? That seems silly. You are really pushing this burn in thing waaay to hard.

Lots of apps are already embracing the 18:9 ratio, and if the 5T doesn't come with something like the Samsung that can adjust the app, well, then I'm disappoint.

My point wasn't that we should live in fear of burn-in, or that I wouldn't buy a 5T if I was currently in the market. It's that claiming warranty support on an imported OnePlus device is extremely unpleasant, and I'm glad to have a much lower risk of burn-in occurring on my OP5.

I like my phones to last 2-3 years. The risk of burn-in on an OLED with on-screen navigation for that period of time is higher than you think.

Stated like that, it sounds a lot better. Keep that in mind next time you talk about OLED burnin.
