BBM for Android, iPhone arrives

All my Whatsapp conversations yesterday were about BB pins and BBM.
Only one of my 16 contacts are using an actually BB, a Z10.

The end of Whatsapp? Maybe, im more expressive with BB emoticons than Whatsapps!

Seems that people that hate BlackBerry automatically hates BBM and will find the smallest reasons to be annoyed by it :D

Anyway, I have everyone on WhatsApp, but I've got BBM running smoothly as well. I'm pretty much impartial. Strange thing is that most of my contacts that have BBM, are now no longer communicating to me via WhatsApp, but via BBM. So what I'm seeing here is that BBM might not be the 'too-little-too-late' failure everyone expects it to be.

:o

You hit the nail on the head. I am a BB 10 user and my friend who has a Samsung device has started to use BBM and I prefer to contact him that way because if he hasn't read the message then I know he is busy and can't chat right now. I have found that Whatsapp tends to delay messages sometimes but as long as you are connected to the BBM server your messages get delivered. The simple fact is that I have confirmation that messages are sent, delivered and read.
The privacy of BBM is another aspect I love, so are the groups and the ease of invitation. Show me your barcode and I can invite you instantly, no need to take down a number or an email address. But the best is that even if your phone is stolen and you have lost all your contacts the moment you reinstall BBM using your BB ID all your contacts and groups are instantly accessible.

I used to have a WP7 device and a BB Torch but when I got my Z10 I put the other two phones in the draw and now I only use one device. I will never understand why users of Android and iPhone hate BB so much, the Z10 and Q10 might have fewer apps but all I want my phone to do is make calls, do emails and connect me to my social networks. I have an Android device and my new contract phone is going to be an Android device too (still love to flash my ROMs) but I will likely continue to use my BB device because of the way it simply works.

Not me. Indifferent yes. Use what works for you. Same as that other oke's comment about Linux in his sig.
Apologies if I have come across as hating BB in this thread. My issue is that for years I have had no need for BBM, and I see no need for it now. For that reason alone, many BB users, and other device users, will continue to run both whatsapp and BBM.

Happy to be finally back on BBM. But BBM drain takes my phone from 100% to 15% in 3hrs with no use at all.

That is what I am worried about as well , not that mine is working as yet . But 3 hrs ..will not do for me.:(

So, thanks to Wall's assistance, I have managed to get this working...

Pros:

  • It's BBM
  • The interface is rather slick.

Cons:

  • Battery hog.
  • Notifications don't appear in the notification shade, so I have no clue as to when someone sends me a message. (EDIT: A reboot seems to have sorted this out, will monitor).
  • Persistent notification icon is annoying (it can be disabled though).
  • Is often prone to delays and freezes when sending messages at times, causing duplicate messages to be sent.

Hopefully it improves, it does have the potential to become a top class IM application.

This what my BBM Says...Unable to Complete Setup. No Connection Found, your connection to the wireless network is off. Restore your connections and try again. I have a Galaxy Note N7000 JB. and Ive downloaded the App via Samsung i have the BB ID, created via the BB Server and yet the app wont go any further than that...

hahaha they do that on bbm phones so they brought this feature to others now ;)

OK, so with the help of imranpanji (and Wall of course :) ) we can conclude that one email address can be used only a finite number of times on different devices.

hardly ever.

I am more comfortable on a full sized US 104-key keyboard than on anything else. I can type fast on my Q10 but at 50 words per minute my typing skills on my PC are far superior (I am no speed typist but better than most hunt-and-peck types).

Still unable to get via iphone btw.. used the link which takes me to app store and then shows a blank page :o

This is happening on my S2 too. I installed via Samsung store. Stock 4.1.2 (Nordic).
