Question on home capped account, is the shaping automatic on download protocols during business hours, or it it only so once you reach the "naughty" levels?
Home capped doesn't have set shaping applied. The p2p and nntp stuff may come down at line speed, or be shaped down in business hours, depending on network load. We run this separate from the uncapped side as well on the network. So basically if there is business capped data coming in, it will give it priority before home capped customers. Business capped pay more for the "first bite" access at the end of the day. And this is why we advertise it openly and honestly in our product FAQ. Again, we don't like to create the "unshaped entirely" impression. Trying to operate that at current pricing levels in the market is very difficult, as some ISPs have been discovering over the last 2 years.
But things are changing with IPC coming down a little. The recent headlines however are a little misleading. Pricing is coming down for niche players a decent amount, while with bigger ISPs as we have slowly become, we get a different offer. I personally believe that current pricing is decent enough to not have to drive pricing down, but to rather offer you guys better value overall. If all we do is drop pricing, the end result is the same experience and quality. Consumers deserve a better experience rather than simply a cheaper broadband connection. It's all about finding that balance at the end of the day.
