Hi VD

On Saturday, after they repaired the problem with the adjacent base stations, my speeds were fantastic. For the first time, ever, I was seeing D/L speeds of 4Mbps from New York on Speedtest.net.

But, since yesterday, the speeds have once again dropped to below that of a dial up modem. I have logged another call with 155. They say that there is currently no problem with the network in Gauteng.

Could you PLEASE follow it up for me? I'll PM you the reference number as soon as they send it to me.

TIA

Steinie

This morning, speeds were back to normal, but only for a couple of hours.

In the last 7 days, I have had exactly 2 days' service from Vodacom. The rest of the time I have been struggling along with speeds that are worse than my old dial-up connection.

The only feedback I have had from VC is that they are "escalating" the problem. How I hate that word!

Please, Vodacom, fix the problem once and for all!!

150kpbs down and 90 up

217kbps/108kbps

461kbps down and 281kbps up

And today 404kbps and 90kpbs ... not quite the best I've had thia month, but approaching the magical 512kbps!

I think Vodacom dreams of a real 3.6, let alone 7.2 or 20+ ...

My friend on Telkom constantly gets 10x my speed - and the sad thing is, I once did achieve 2mbps ... so it is possible

Well, on Friday afternoon, speeds started picking up again and, by Saturday morning, speeds were great.

However, this euphoria did not last very long. By midday on Monday (yesterday) the problem had returned and my speeds are now down to 2 or 3 KB/s!!

Tomorrow, it will be exactly two weeks of utter frustration for me. And, this is not the first time that this has happened, either.

VODACOMDATA, can you please check on this for me? It baffles me that they keep on saying that there is a fault with the adjacent base station. If they know there is a fault, why don't they fix it?

And, can anyone explain to me how the VC speed test works? I constantly get great results with it, even during this period of no throughput, yet I cannot even access the Speedtest.net website.

The VC speedtest sits inside the Vodacom network. This means comms from you up to a certain point in the Vodacom network is working. It helps show you if the problem is inside the network. So if you cannot get to anything else then the problem lies closer to the edge of the Vodacom network.

Thanks, Morkhans.

They keep on telling me that there is a problem with the adjacent base stations. So, why doesn't this problem affect my VC speed test?

See what I am getting at?

BTW, tomorrow will be two weeks since this problem reared its ugly head again, after an absence of three months or so. :(

It could be a routing issue. Traffic to VC speedtest is routed differently to internet traffic, or simply the route to internet is congested/broken.

Thanks, Morkhans, that makes a lot of sense.

Meanwhile, my problem has not yet been solved!!

Hello Steinie.

I have looked on the number and the service request is logged. It is currently pending and seems it has been linked to a master fault for the BTS that is sending out Alarms. Network is investigating.

According to the notes, someone spoke to you on the 27th explaining the problem and that they will communicate with you as soon as the problem is resovled.

It is a little bit early to have a resolution on this yet as the call was only logged on the 26th, but I will email customer care and ask if they can perhaps supply a ETA on a solution.

Regards:
Ockie :-)

Thanks again for your interest!

As I explained in my PM to you, that reference number is for the last in a series of 3 or 4 complaints lodged over the past 17 days. They managed to sort it out twice, but the remedy lasted for only two days at a time.

Problems with a tower (VodacomData)

Hi VodacomData,

I had a b970 which could get a connection (-69bd) with the tower but no data moved at all, browsing just gave a "named could not be resoved error.

Also the connection/signal would go from great to nothing all the time, one day it would be perfect, the next the problem would pop up again. I logged calls (about 4) with vodacom which were escalated to the networking guys. The guys i spoke to seemed to think it was the device, so i sent the device in to them for testing (not sure how long that is going to take before i get feedback) and bought a new modem (K4505-Z), as its a business and we can't do without internet.

The new modem now has the same problem, although it seems to happen less. The network guys said that i connect to the bon accord tower which had recently had some work done to it to sort out some issues. Is it possible to see if those issues have been sorted out or if there are any new ones as logging a call to vodacom is gonna take a day or two to sort out and i'm going to have to go through the entire process again.

Any help suggestions would be great.

Thanks in advance
Rustic

Everytime i recharge and activate a data bundle my speeds are shockly slow but after about 4-5 days they get back to normal speeds. Last month i had the same problem and this month as well.

Hello Steinie. I have emailed you the response from Vodacom regarding your signal and throughput issues. Please note that you will be updated via SMS etc also as progress is made with the call.

Ockie
